Moving to the back line of defense for part two as we look at the corners and safeties:
Here is the outlook following the spring: https://www.flamefans.com/forums/viewto ... =2&t=20530
Players Incoming:
Justin Guillory CB 6-0 170 Lbs Beaumont, TX (West Brook High School)
Gary Sampson S 5-11 190 Lbs Miami, FL (Dade Christian High School)
Wesley Scott CB 5-11 185 Lbs Lorton, VA (Hayfield HS)
Chris Robinson CB 5-9 165 Lbs Sanford, FL (Transfer from Tennessee State)
Joshua Yoda CB 6-0 190 Lbs Silver Spring, MD Springbrook HS
Ryan Ferguson 5-9 160 Lbs Lynchburg, VA (Liberty Christian Academy)
Tyrin Holloway 6-0 180 Lbs Humble, TX (Atascosita HS)
Probably the lightest of the positions with only four players signed and two walk-ons (plus one FCS transfer) but this group is very heavy on experience, despite the departure of all-conference safety Brent Vinson. Walt Aikens and 2011 all-conference honoree Kevin Fogg return to anchor the backfield. Appomattox product Kenny Scott and Sorie Bayoh also were major contributors. Kirby Anderson mised all of last season due to injury, but looks to be finally healthy and ready to contribute. Jacob Hagen broke out in 2012, including a scoop and score to seal the Flames' 28-14 victory over #6 Stony Brook. Andrew Jauch actually impressed the staff in the spring so much that he comes into the season as the starter at the SAM linebacker position (will talk more about that next week). With Vinson's graduation, along with Jauch and Chris Mayo moving to linebacker as well as Ryan Ayers departure from the program, also creates an opening at both safety positions which likely will see a wide open competition between redshirt freshman Charles Williams and walk-on Joshua Yoda (which could lead to quite a few Star Wars references should he see the field) with incoming freshman Gary Sampson also working his way into the fight, along with returners Hagen, Tyler Rhyne, Aaron Dial ad Miles Hunter.
(Thanks to forbidden for help with everyone's positions)
With a unit that finished as one of four teams in the Big South to allow fewer than 200 yards passing for the entire season and 32nd in the nation in pass defense, the defensive backs will be the major catalyst to whether or not Liberty will be hositing their first outright conference champion trophy since 2008 come November
