The other details really aren't that important
This is what I was trying to get at, postman said it better. With a new staff, many first time starters, and multiple players missing significant time due to injuriees, I'm ok with the result this year.

If Liberty wouldn't over promote under deliever we wouldn't be having these debates. --

I'm sure before September 1st, everyone EXPECTED LU to beat Norfolk St and Lehigh --

Now on November 19 they are considered good losses...

Agreed on that part for sure. I was just pointing out that the unquestioned feeling here about this year's schedule being tougher didn't really hold up with how our opponents actually played.

Correct...B+ on the curve...B minus without...our record is what it is regardless of the reasons...

And though you make good contributions...you dont need to undermine them soon thereafter

Nobody, other than the normal kool-aid drinkers, thought we were going to win those games. Most may have thought we had a shot, which we did, but it wasn't expected.

LU athetics, or any athletic dept for that matter, is in the business of getting people out to the games. They aren't going to under promote a team simply because it's going to be a down yeah, just sayin

NAJ, if i'm not mistaken you argued at lengths end before the season that Wake was as good as State was last year. Maybe i'm wrong, im too lazy to go back and look at that thread but if so I'm glad you saw the light haha

Bigsouthking, i think everyone expected us to beat Norfolk State but not Lehigh. The common perception was that we would be 1-3 or 2-2 at best after the first four. Sure there was an outlying opinion here and there. Had we have beaten Norfolk state i would have been very satisfied with the first year under Gill. That was a BAD loss, it has been sad over and over.

And going in they looked to have a good season, just like Montana and Norfolk State. If those teams had played anywhere near their expected level then this year's schedule would have been harder than last year's. Instead, none of the OOC games for us were what they were expected to be, making it a weaker schedule than what we played last year. That's what's good about looking at thing objectively. Instead of pretending the schedule was hard because teams played well last year, or were ranked when we played them, I can look at where they ended up and say that the schedule wasn't all it was cracked up to be (through no fault of LU). I doubt we'll see everyone in our non conference play under their usual level like that again and we should keep putting together those kinds of potentially challenging schedules.

We handed them (NSU) that game - a punt return for 6 and a fumble return for 6 and us stalled on the 1 yard line with 2 plays at the end of the game and didn't score. Without Sigmon and Bah for that game, they ran all over us.

Nice article in Thursday's paper about Coach Gill's first season, with lots of quotes from coach and Pat Kelly (and Kelly even quoted Rocco once). Unfortunately, the article has NOT made the online version of the paper.
:banghead
But here's a Gill quote I typed up for you anyway:
We're heading in the right direction...It's great to finish 3-0 in November and...We're going to be reckoned with hopefully for many, many years to come.
And another quote from the Lang-less author:
The Flames have the key pieces in place to build off the 6-1 record in hte final seven games of the season [mentions both Woodrum and Andrekis coming back]."
Does anyone know if the author, Damien Sordelett, has joined Flame Fans? :fineprint
