UVA is scared to play LU. there was a game schedule but UVA backed out. they were afraid that if LU even played them close it would hurt recruiting since schools are so close to each other

LYNCHBURG, Va.— As Liberty University attempts its program move to college football's highest division, the Flames announced Monday that they have picked up more Football Bowl Subdivision opponents on their future schedule.

As WDBJ7 reported last week, Liberty will make a trip to Blacksburg in 2016 to take on Virginia Tech.

In 2015, Liberty University will travel to Morgantown, WV, and play at West Virginia.

Next season, Liberty University will play Kent State. Liberty also played Kent State in 2004 when it lost 38-10.

Just a little something to make your Tuesday morning a little brighter from our good friend Dan Casey's blog on the Roanoke times website.

Guest post: Hokie football shouldn’t elevate Liberty U

Note from Dan: Paul Scott of Roanoke sent this to me recently, regarding Virginia Tech’s plans to play Liberty University in football come 2016. It’s an interesting perspective that deserves a wider view.

By Paul Scott

As a Virginia Tech alumni, I am very much disturbed by the school putting Liberty University on the football schedule. This is another example of a concerted effort to legitimize the militantly homophobic, radically conservative private organization.

Obviously, Liberty has the right to its opinions and goals. However, it is not acceptable for Virginia Tech to give Liberty large amounts of money and a showcase on the football field.

This is a direct insult to all LGBT alumni of Virginia Tech. It should be offensive to non-LGBT citizens as well. Suppose Bob Jones University had a football team. Would the black community be insulted with them on a football schedule?

Virginia Tech has absolutely refused to schedule public, historically black schools from the state, yet has no trouble finding a way to sit down with and agree with the private Liberty.

Perhaps you can get a statement from Mr. Weaver about his thinking as well as discover the amount of money being given to Liberty.

How much do Mr. Weaver’s own personal politics and beliefs figure into this contract?

Does he realize or care how offensive this is to many alumni at his own school?

Further, is he prepared for an effort by groups to publicize, protest and perhaps disrupt proceedings from now until this unfortunate game is played?

I certainly hope the LGBT community throughout the state is not going to accept this outrageous situation.

Thanks for making me spill coffee all over my computer.

What a sad little runt. Poor guy probably lives his life so scared of those crazy Christians! bahahah

It's astounding to me how people make comments like this which shows their absolute ignorance regarding our school. Oh, and Bob Jones has black students, idiot. :D

btw, where is the LGBTFEWD alphabet soup community? Do they all just live in one place on the other side of railroad tracks? I'm much more interested in what the Christian community apparently has to say as well. :D

My apologies... best way to handle these people is to laugh. They're so insecure.

Not really sure who this guy is...let me see if I can get one of my friends to write something. He's someone Hokie fans will actually listen to because they all know who he is and what he's done for their program.

Good luck. Casey is two fries short of a Marxist and I doubt he'll publish it.

So, he thinks VT shouldn't be able to schedule any non-LGBT..whateveritis supporting schools? Like, since when do coaches and AD's need to look at every school's political values before they put them on their schedule? Also, I've never seen anyone that is likely from that "community" at a Virginia Tech football game.
