Well, last time I checked I'm not...

I can concede it's a debatable subject, however once again I must raise the point that a lot of these guys simply will not fit the LU lifestyle.

i do not disagree with that point about fitting in at LU, because there has been some 757 players who have had plenty of run-ins with the law. but overrated it is not. where did you play ball down there? you could say the same thing with the state of florida as far as not fitting in too. some players from that state have had legal trouble too...

I didn't play ball there. I played here in Botetourt. Granted I didn't play much, I was just a backup receiver, fullback, and played kicker after I torn tendons in my left leg.

But this isn't about my talent. I'm not saying the Tidewater doesn't have good talent. Just not the 5 star talent that we're looking for. And also, the cultural issues that come with it.

That's not a double negative. "I DON'T not agree" would be a double negative.

Passively not disagreeing is different from the active predicate of agreeing. Many a law career has been built on exploiting the distinctions.

bock..maybe you should go into law..you have conveinently went from the 757 being overrated to it does not have the 5 star talent that LU is looking for, to a cultural issue...which is getting pretty borderline. their have been plenty of LU football players that have come from an "urban" setting whether it be in the 757 or florida, or any other area that is "urban" and have done quite well. in an area like the 757 as BEE-JAY said the percentages will be higher for bad eggs...bigger area right? i guess a football player from fleming in roanoke which is "urban" will not fit in, or a kid from the inner city schools in richmond will not fit in either?? gabe henderson went to southeast raleigh which is very "urban" and seems to be doing quite well. i realize you said not all recruits are like this, but their are plenty of holes in your arguement. so what if a non "urban" player does not succeed at LU? what are they classified as?? there have been plenty that have not succeeded. just sayin....and haize, thanks for the english lesson...LOL

**i forgot...how many 5-star recruits has LU signed??

I see what you're saying but it's not a directly proportional relationship (population compared to criminals). For example let's look at gangs. Which will you find more in? Roanoke? or Floyd County? While that is not to say that the recruit from Floyd County couldn't be a gang (for all we know, maybe he is). Nor does it automatically mean the player from Roanoke is in a gang. However, we can see the cultural differences and their influences on the recruit and have a influential impact on this recruits personal choices, one which may disqualify them from playing at LU.

Perhaps we can look at it this way. Hypothetically we say that Floyd County's population is 15,000. They have 200 gang members. Roanoke City's population is 95,000. They have 800 gang members. Which would you hear about more? Roanoke's. But which really has more gang members per capita? Floyd.

The impact that example has is that population will inflate the number of bad eggs (as BJ put it) there are.

Anyways, using Gabe Henderson as an example, or any kid, I feel proves my point that not all players from urban areas would not fit at LU. What I mean to say is that urban areas tend to not give us as many opportunities to find a recruit who would meet our standards, as say, the small town quarterback who has gone to church all his life.

For the record, I almost ended up going to Fleming. I went to Roanoke City schools K-7th grade, in the poorer side of town. Perhaps that would have been a better example to use. And yes, Law School has actually been on my mind :D It's just my opinion all are free to disagree.

so a kid from an urban area cant go to church?? cmon man.....plenty of "small town boys" as you say do not go to church. i understand about your point about being fewer opportunities in the urban areas as opposed to suburbia or small town kids, but urban area kids do have opportunities for church..and just curious...you almost went to fleming instead of LB?? you were going to pay tuition to go to a city school instead of staying in botetourt? or were you a city kid paying to go to LB?

I added this after my original post but I went to Roanoke City schools K-7th grade. Preston Park, Huff Lane (it's now closed), and Lucy Addison for MS. Then we moved out to Botetourt (my parents work brought them out there) and I began playing football there because in Roanoke City they don't have football for MS (at least they didn't at that time).

Other than that let's just agree to disagree my friend :D

So now you are down on small town boys? Who cares if the Meth usage is out of control proportionally in Small Town America, there are still some redeeming qualities!!
I would say there are more churches per sq. mi in an urban setting than ANY small town
(I was against Small Town Kids, before I was for them!!) And I want to see how far we can take this
