I was wondering if anyone had heard when LU planned on starting phase two of construction on the football stadium.

when we need the next addition they will start , so by today's turnout, we will not need the extra deck on the student side. we are getting there, but its just gonna take time.

Here's an interesting story on the thoughts of expanding VT's Lane Stadium. I think LU can relate. I agree after seeing last nights attendance that phase 2 isn't needed right away. I'll be curious to see the attendance of a game when nothing else is happening such as CFAW or Alumni weekend. If the locals don't come out, they are missing out on a great game day experience right in their back yard.

Great article there Flamesfanva. Boxes and club levels are the main revenue generating sources. I would rather have a smaller stadium but more boxes and club seats. Keep the sell out feel. Hopefully that is something the AD considers in the phase II and III. I have always thought that when done you keep the students where they are and add student seats in the endzone (phase III). Let the phase II upper deck be left available for another future club level and more suites.

Also, I like that we have a master plan. Lane stadium looks all disjointed and thrown together.

Guys i was at the Football Alumni dinner last night and Jeff Barber was talking about the stadiums next phase a little bit. He said that after last weeks game, he thought for sure the need was there for further expansion. But after last nights draw, he said he was a little dissapointed at the turnout of the students. That being said, we have to consistently sellout and overflow the capacity of the staium in order to make the expansion happen. If we have games (like yesterdays) where there are near empty sections, why should we add anoth 5,000 seats? The need will be there, just not right now.

Yes I'd like a job at the admissions office, I'm going to add a question to the application. It will read like this:

"Will you be a die hard Liberty athletics fan, promise to make every home game, and stay for the entire game, if accepted to Liberty University. (If the answer is no, don't bother submitting your application."

By the way if that question was really on there I see a huge boost of students seeking there undergrad and grad in sports management haha

I'm sure it's been talked about elsewhere, but the student support yesterday was pathetic. They never filled their side and by the start of the 2nd quarter there was a steady stream of students leaving. No idea why, and the game was setting up like we were really going to need the crowd to help the team win in the 4th.

I loved the way the PA announcer said "Be Early, Be Loud, Wear Red, and Stay for 60 Minutes." Perhaps that should be incorporated into it.

Be Early
Be Loud
Wear Red
Stay 60

One major event changes everything though. Make the playoffs a few years and we'll need it right away. Lose a few games every year and it will be longer.

There is a theory that having fewer seats than demand produces more excitement for a program. I get the gist of that, but don't particularly agree with it. I think fewer seats than demand means people sitting on a bank and not having as great of a game experience. When that happens, it seems to me that the time has come to have more seats.

Well, I guess you could say we've been testing that theory by having to bring in portable seats the last few years...
