I think you have that backwards.

Most other universities have a lot of alumni that live out of state. It's very common for people that attend NC State, dook Carolina, VT, (ie your bigger universities)...to have careers that lead them out of state.

LU's alumni niche right now is alum that stay in the 245 area code.

I think it was a generalization. Like compare us to VT. I would venture to say that most VT students are in staters or at least somewhat local. They grew up in state and when they graduate they'll stay in state. Where as LU, students come from every state in the union. And then when they graduate, many stay local, but probably just as many go back to where they came from. You don't get as srtong of a local base. I guess it's more so a problem of private schools.

Maybe.

I just met more VT grads when I lived in NC than I have here in Va...which sounds strange, I know.

My buddy and I were actually talking about a subject similar to this. The top 5 states represented at Liberty (now whether that means the alumni will stay in the Virginia area or not, I don't know) are: Virginia, North Carolina, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Florida, in that order. Leave out Florida and pretty much you have less than a 7 hour drive for all students in those regions. I know this doesn't mean that all students will stay in the prospective states, but at least that gives a pretty good idea as to where the main influx of students are coming from.

Wow, based on current enrollment we are much less of a national university today than 20 years ago. It appears we are currently much more regional. Back in the day, the biggest enrollment came from Florida, Texas, Ohio & Michigan along with Virginia. Obviously the lack of the powerhouse OTGH has changed the paradigm greatly.

You can't judge by what our current team would do in the CAA. When you move to a higher level or a better conference your recruiting profile immediatly improves, and you start getting consideration from more and better players. We might struggle for a year or 2 in the CAA, but ultimately I believe we could compete for championships there as well.

I agree with oldflame, but I would take it one step further. After one year in the CAA or even the Sun Belt Conference (FBS), Liberty would be very competitive. Teams adapt and evolve to the situation that they are placed in, and if you don’t believe me think back to last season with Presbyterian when we lost to a D II school trying to move up. Though I hate the conference that the school is in, the advantage next year for us is that we WILL be able to showcase in FCS our football team in the playoff for least two to three more years. After that a move to a revamped CAA conference seeking FBS status, Sun Belt or CUSA is very feasible for sure! :fbplayer :football :football

As much as I would love for what you said to come true for the advance into the FBS... realistically, serious talks (just talking, not acting) of that happening probably won't happen for another 4-5 years. Moving conferences, that would definitely happen a lot sooner than a move to the FBS.

Ya, but still, more than likely not to happen. IF it did, we definitely would not go to C-USA. Travel would cause us to go bankrupt. Although there are a couple of conferences where we could compete, doesn't mean we can afford to compete. Costs have to be incorporated with any and all consideration. Like I said, I would love to see it happen, but definitely not until we get that 2011 National Title :D

I must disagree. It wouldn't be bad if we had close games every once in a while. But aside from Stony Brooke, which was away, most of our games were blowouts and students left at halftime. Which makes for a very boring second half.

Ya, the problem is more of not having enough teams. Assuming SB stays, which helps a lot, I think we will see a lot better competition, especially with the new auto bid. Presby, I know their Presby, but they will get better. If I remember correctly, they had 70 freshman on their team. They will be good in a couple of years (and by good I mean give or take .500). With the auto bid that should bring in better recruits for the whole conference. I think we'll be the team to beat for the next 3-4 years +, but I guarantee it will get more difficult for a W, home or away.

I think he was more referring to home games (all of which except JMU and NCCU were over by the end of the third quarter)
