I was soooooooo impressed with "The Spirit of the Mountain". They risked ruining their instruments, they sounded great despite the downpour of cats and dogs. Thanks SOTM and Dr. Kerr!!!! Great job!!
Thanks for the kind words bozlady! I was down on the field at halftime and needless to say I was swelling with pride as the band performed

SLY You may want to right this down, it may move me up to three positive things. Playing this game on a Thursday was an absolute BRILLIANT move. Schedule an easy win, on a weekday to start the season is a great way to build student interest. With just about EVERYONE staying on campus, plus the natural curiosity of the community towards the new coaching regime, the new field and (almost complete) field house you were guaranteed a big crowd!! Great job moving forward. The student fans are now excited about this team which means they will be more likely to continue to show up and cheer. This bodes good things for the team/program this year.
(Is it me or do I remember hearing somewhere you should always try to sell out the sell outs?)
Is it too early to talk about 1AA playoffs? (Ok maybe going over w/ the positive stuff there)

bigsmooth wrote:great job by the students. they really turned it up a notch. someone get a memo to the PA announcer...when he says and that is another flames first down, he needs to say "first down" to educate the fans, because it was sporadic on the press box side, and as SJ said, if they could not hear it, kinda hard to do it in unison.
I could barely hear it because of the wind, rain and my ears were covered by my hood....but my friends and I did respond but very faintly

I'm on the left with my face painted. We went Braveheart on this one.

They said they had some other really good pictures but it was guys from The Champion that took them. I'm going to try to get some of them of the SFC section so we can have them for later.

It makes me mad...I can't scream as much any more...It makes me lose my voice now. And that's not good for a pastor!

I used to bring some clackers and a plastic horn (one of those deep sounding viking type horns...not an airhorn)to the games, but then they started announcing that noismakers were illegal...First they said it was Big South Rules, so I sent an email to ask the commissoner, and the response was it was an NCAA rule. So I downloaded that part of the rulebook as a PDF...and at says something like, "Noisemakers are prohibited during gameplay*" and then the astrerics down at the bottom says, "Time-outs, stoppages of play, etc, are NOT considered gameplay".

So Techinacally, I could use my clapper, up until they snap the ball. But I can't yell "First Down" :(

Great! I might start bringing my clappers again (they look like little plastic hands...a little louder than handclapping...)

But, just to be safe, I'll only use them in between downs...not during gameplay (want to stick with the NCAA rule).

Maybe I'll keep a copy of the rule in my pocket in case someone near me complains...I don't want them to take my toys away from me...haha.

(SJ...I sit on the old people's side - I guess I'm an old person now...so I can't be quite as crazy)

I second this and also add that there is just something about night games...maybe it's the fact that the night envelops the landscape around the stadium and with the stadium lit up, the field is the ultimate focal point.

Yea, but remember, most of the big boys played away this weekend. Richmond, App, Montana St, all of those guys will be opening at home next weekend.

SJ you were sitting next to the guy with the flaming hair! He has been a staple in Vines Center and on Flames Television for the 3 seasons we have done the games. Is he on this board? I want to meet that kid someday.

Interesting that you mentioned those teams specifically. Richmond won at Duke, App gave NC State a run and Montana St. won at Colorado.

That's why I mentioned them. Their fans will pack their stadiums this weekend.

SCAR, I don't think he's on here. Honestly, I don't remember his name. He did say that he wears that to all of the games.

What the heck is it? It looks like a construction paper hat with an LU sticker slapped on the side. Is it supposed to be a mohawk? I never got it.
