This is a sign that we are dominating the conference. Everyone hates the yanks, ND, duke....etc....everyone calls those who constantly win arrogant. Its normal, and it is the GREATEST COMPLIMENT of all! This shouldn't bother us, we should be proud of it. The more who hate our football program the better it is.

Another reason we can be "arrogant" towards CSU:

When our team came on the field to warm up and stretch and do their pregame routines, they were unable to do anything around the 34 yard line.

Why the 34 yard line?

Because there was a big pile of dog crap on the 34 yard line.

Charleston Southern had animal feces on their field and didn't even know about it an hour before game time.

I have a somewhat nuanced perspective on this, somewhere in between "It's not arrogance; it's confidence" and "way to make Christians look like trash."

Some LU posters on AGS say the kind of things that some of our fans said making the transition to I-AA football, that things were in the bag. One poster in particular from this site suggested that LU might as well go ahead and consider the next few seasons as guaranteed championships. Whether or not it was meant it in jest or otherwise, it left a bad taste in my mouth. The tone of some posts disparage other conference schools and almost take joy in others' struggles. But slamming the Big South won't do anything for anyone, especially LU. There's an expression I like. It goes, "don't sh*t where you eat." You're free to put down any school you want; but there's a certain line that is to be avoided. There's no need to put down other schools in the conference, because you represent that conference. And if you're the champion of a conference that you malign, then what do you really have? When we beat you last year, we could have talked all kinds of trash on our board, but we didn't do that. We said "good game" and that was the end of it. LU has enjoyed some serious success in the last two seasons, and should be commended for it. But remember, too, that your undefeated record you are sporting now was completely inverted five years ago. Coastal, not Liberty, used to be the Big South forerunner. Sometimes winning has the effect of shortening memories, like FSU has seen with the whole Bobby Bowden coaching scandal a few weeks ago. No one seems to remember that before Bowden got here, FSU wasn't even worth watching. Perhaps some of the posters on this forum should keep that sort of thing in mind when discussing their program on AGS or anywhere else.

I disagree completely. Charleston Southern's facilities are an absolute embarrassment to the conference. It's an absolute joke that a Division I school plays at that place. Just like it's an absolute embarrassment that Coastal, CSU, and UNCA play in the gyms they play in. I can give credit where it's due with UNCA for upgrading but it's an embarrassment at CCU and CSU. Our conference will never be taken seriously when our schools are playing in middle school facilities.

When we're doing everything we can in terms of facilities, exposure, game day operations, etc to make our conference look better and to put on a good face for our conference and Charleston Southern is sitting there playing in crap (literally) then yeah, I'm going to slam them for it.

I understand that we have more resources than a school like Charleston Southern. That's a given and I understand they can't do the things we can. But c'mon, dog crap on the field an hour before kickoff and running out of cups (plus having no water) for coaches and media? That's an absolute joke. And to make it worse, their people said it's not the first time something like that has happened.

That was me, and why wouldn't I think that? Look at our roster. The majority of it is freshman and sophomores. It wasn't meant as putting down the conference. I said it after we destroyed Coastal, and why wouldn't I feel that way? If noone in the conference can beat us this year, I see no reason for them being able to beat us the next 2 years.

This is Division I football, instead of feeling sorry for yourselves, step up to the level we've set.

I really want CSU fans to notice this. this is coming from a non biased source WHO BEAT US AT HOME. its pride guys. maybe we can be a little nicer after we win sure. but we are proud of what this team has accomplished. CSU fans need to read our game threads and maybe they'll get a glimpse that we aren't arrogent we critiqe our team more than anyone. you guys have a great coach in Jay mills and if your facilities get upgraded you could have something special going. I do wish you guys luck the rest of the season. but i'm not going to apologize for being proud of my guys being on the winning side.

indeed. for example, if we didn't beat VMI earlier in the season by more than 20 points I would have been extremely concerned. (not to say we don't have problems right now, but at that time we really didn't.)

Check the tag. I'm a JMU fan, not a Liberty fan, bro. I know all about being overconfident playing Coastal.

Like I said, you can feel however you want. But it's not as if your team is the only one in the country that can improve. You never know what could happen in the offseason in terms of injuries, transfers, or player development at Liberty or anywhere else. Maybe it's just because I'm a professional historian, but I don't believe that past successes will necessarily translate into future ones. Personally, I don't like to make calls for the future so that I don't have to avoid eating crow for being too pumped up and premature. Sometimes, teams come out of nowhere and surprise everyone, like last year's game between LU and PC. On paper y'all had that one won from the start, but lost the game when it came time to put on pads and helmets. I'm not saying that we're going to pull another upset next week like we did last year, in fact, I think the chances are pretty low, but strange things happen. LU has a lot going for it and, with momentum, will continue to be highly favored in Big South and I-AA play, but while it's certainly possible that LU will continue to dominate the conference, it's by no means inevitable.

I perceive the conference turn of this conversation kind of like a family. Big South fans disparage each other's schools in an almost cruel way, because that's what conference rivalries are about. But most would defend other Big South schools if someone from the outside came after one of them, like a family defending their own. LU's fans do this because they realize that at least for now, LU's fortunes are tied in large part to those of the rest of the conference.

LU's fans just hate that the facilities and other things at CSU, HPU, CCU (bball), and UNCA make it so difficult to defend them as their Big South brethren. The many aspects of the athletics product at BSC schools is indeed indefensibly embarassing at times.

HPU isn't really embarrassing, they have appropriate facilities considering the size of their school, and they're well maintained and really pretty nice. But I get your point, the Big South should act like DI schools to be treated like DI schools.

I am getting real tired of the pompus, greater than thou attitudes from some of you guys who think just because a team held you to 20 points instead of your customary 40 points that is something wrong with your team and not that you are playing a team that had just as much of a shot at beating you as you did beating them...

Is it just me, or does this crying about the "Pompous Liberty Attitude" seem just like sore losers? Or are we really "arrogant"?

I don't really care, because I am confident in the team anyways. But I was just wondering if you guys thought we really were pompous and arrogant, or if this was just a way of the other Big South schools showing their envy, or bitterness, or sore loserness.

I think most of CSU Fan's problems stem from his team getting KILLED every week. It might be arrogant to complain about getting held to 20 by a team that was legitimately a threat... however, when you get blown out by pretty much everybody you face, well, certainly not getting blown out by the number 1 team in the conference would tend to be more a factor of that team playing badly rather than the cannon fodder team playing well.

I think it just boils down to the fact that CSU has not been successful and doesn't put in the effort to get there, so they have no idea how you act when you are there. Go LU. And, yes, that auto bid in 2010 IS ours!

this thread is hilarious!!! ok...some on this board do post some arrogant things on other board and even here on flamefans. they are also quick to criticize our team. Coach Rocco has instilled the team with an expect to win attitude and that has in turn with groups like the LUnatics and the SFC more school spirit and and attitude to match. so coastalfan and the CSU whiny fan, get over yourself. LU saw what coastal was doing and we raised our program to new heights and will continue to do so when rocco moves on. LU is committed to better facilities, and has raised the bar for all BSC schools. as Doc used to say "if it's Christian, it should be better", and no true liberty fan is gonna apologize for having SWAG. CSU should take some of the money they get from the many A-whippings they have taken and at least build some locker rooms and concessions at their stadium. there are high school stadiums in small towns that are better than that place. you guys should be happy that jay mills has hung around! look at it this way. duke has been a traditional ACC bottom feeder, and play in a pretty crappy stadium, but to keep up with the other schools they built a football ops center, and made improvements to concessions and restrooms. it is something that had to be done. CSU's facilities are a joke and the big south should make the schools raise their standards. PC's facilities are way better than CSU. LU will continue to have our SWAG, so get used to it...it's not changing. i so love when other schools "hate". it shows who the BIG DOG" really is!!!
