Tassarra was third string this year. There are a lot of guys ahead of him. The starters, looking at playing time this year, will probably be:

Weaver
Mosier
Godsil
Stone
Davis

Spencer Hodges, if he develops, will be the backup to the two guard positions.

Tassarra will likely be a backup at the tackle position.

We also have to remember Chase Harrington in the talks as well.

I would figure that Tony White, the guy from Manassas Park would be a second string next year. Chase Harrington, don't know too much about him other than the fact he is big (6' 8" 300 lbs) and was a preferred walk-on.

Getting back on topic, I don't think that we will get the big influx of transfers that we have gotten for the last 2 years. We might get a few here and there and hopefully we will get some of the major impact kind like Rashad and Vince. The UVA pipeline will soon run dry.

That was the argument VMI was throwing around at us when we played them a few weeks ago.

Stevev wrote:We are going to need some 1A transfers to fill the voids at the OL position for next year. If we don't get any transfers for next year production at that position will drop off unless something unexpected happens in the offseason. For instance when Eddie Pinigus went down for the first 2 games there seemed to be a big dropoff. OL like Eddie don't come around very often at the 1AA level. You really can't expect some of Coach Rocco's recruits to fill that void immediately. The Karcher holdovers aren't all that good.

I agree with most of the above postings that we should depend less on transfers as Coach Rocco's keeps bringing in talented high school recruits.
FYI - When Eddie was out, Josh Weaver filled his spot and graded out highest of the OLine for the first two games, including Sene, Aus, Godsill ... so to say there was a big drop off is ignorant as you must not have watched the games very closely.
Mosier also filled Stone's slot well some at the end of the season and performed well in the championship game when Stone moved to Center in Mike's place.

We will definitely loose some talent and experience that will be hard to replace. The same is true in every position - we will just have to see how the back up players pan out.

Is it possible that the Virginia pipeline may not dry up? Do Al and Danny still maintain a strong relationship, in which is mutually beneficial? By that I mean, that there may continue to be players at Virginia which may not be in the current plan, and are older, that may actually be directed to LU, helping both programs and giving a kid an opportunity to play his senior/junior year instead of riding pine. Same might hold true at V tech. Coach Rocco and the program in general have much love to offer to a potential FBS transfer.

Don't forget when recruiting kids, Coach will get relationships with them and even if they do sign somewhere else they always remember who treated them fairly when recruiting. Then if the situation changes at their programs (ie. new coaching or sitting on the bench) they will rethink Coach Rocco and Liberty.

Personally I don't see Liberty being a magnet for 1A transfers to come to when things don't go there way as far as playing time due to the unique nature of the school. Sure we will get a few if and when the pipeline does go dry at UVA but it is not like we are Marshall or JMU which at times gets them in bunches. I would rather see LU build the program up from the inside with solid recruiting and maybe get 1 or 2 impact 1A transfers to fill a need to or to lead us to national championship calibre program year in and year out. If you depend too much on transfers you get inconsistencies year to year and sometimes the when a recruit feels like he has earned a starting role only to get bumped back by an incoming transfer then he feels like he is being "screwed over". You don't need that reputation of "transfer U" due to recruits shying away from us do to the reputation it brings in.

What you said is probably true if Al Groh is still coaching at UVA. When he leaves then things change. Good point!

It may seem like a strange comparison, but look at our MBB team, where we have 2 or 3 players who are using up schollies right now and will probably be moving on to D2 or NAIA programs next year, if not next semester, to the benefit of all concerned (teams and athletes).

flafan wrote:O line will need work this year. FYI, Weaver was a IA recruit. He chose Liberty. Sometime will write more about the process in the thread started by 4everfsu. Weaver graded out the highest on Oline for first two games.

Go Flames. Big South Conference Champs!!!

Thanks for writing that flafan. Everyone seems so enamored about 1A schools but many recruits choose to come to Liberty over those bigger schools in football basketball, soccer, baseball, etc. I believe Zach Terrell, Wynton Jackson and others could easily play at the 1A level. Weaver is a prime example of choosing Liberty for the value system in place. Rocco has said it in public: "Liberty is not a compromise school." The second some on this board see that one of our recruits is being recruited by "better" schools, they thing we won't get them. If our coaches recruited that way we would be complete idiots. Believe me I know because I have helped recruit players to Liberty and competed against ACC schools for talent. There are dozens of factors that go into a recruit making a decision as I have said many times. Fans just see 2 names on paper and assume a kid will naturally pick the more recognizable name. That is just not so. BTW I am glad the big fella chose Liberty flafan. Can't wait to hear the story.

i look forward to hearing the story too flafan. who really knows about transfers...the ones the came excelled and that will be seen by any transfer. will the relationship with UVA continue?? it appears al groh will be around a bit longer now with the season they are having so we will have to wait and see. but as rocco has said good recruiting and a mix of transfers like he has seen at UMass and App seem to be a formula for success.

Thanks Scar and Smooth. I just posted his story under the thread about Liberty players testimonies.

Hope we can hear some other stories too.

You know, I didn't want to post that, but (and this is serious), SJ I recalled how your testimony was so good and that I shared it as an example in a class I was teaching about God's leading and how He uses people and events to in life to direct us. So, I thought maybe this could be an encouragement to someone else.

I know this is off topic - so the remainder is on another thread.

O-lineman from Baylor (Jeremy Michel) is schedule to make a visit to LU and Middle Tenn State soon. He has three years left.

I have heard that 1-A transfers will no longer receive instant eligibility and will have to sit a year.

If this rumor is true - it will be difficult getting transfers anymore.
A transfer will have to sit a year unless he has at least two years of eligibility left. So no seniors will be able to transfer and play immediately. The NCAA wanted to clamp down on the mercenary nature of seniors transferring for just one year without repercussion.

Meaning the only two guys that the new rule would've effected are Marshal and Noah.

Yes, since Redd in essence sat a year after transferring anyhow.

Ohhh 6-7?? Man, wrap it up then 😭
