Redd sacrificed his dreads to become a team player

Lynchburg News & Advance

Vince Redd hadn't cut his hair in eight years. Dreadlocks flowed below his shoulders, part of the in-look of today's football player. Just check out any NFL game on Sunday. You're bound to find a player or five with the long locks escaping their helmets.

This was taken directly from Rocco's press conference, and if you get a chance, you should listen to him tell the story.

I must confess I got a bit misty-eyed. Then when I got to work this morning and saw the paper it was obvious that our resident scribe was also impressed. This is a great story, whether Vince goes on to a pro career or not (but a lot more people will hear it if he does!) It makes you proud to be a small part of supporting what we are doing in our Athletic Program. I loved Rocco's line "I'm going to have to go to Jerry for a favor some day, and it's not gunna be about your hair!"

I've always thought his hair that he has now was pretty cool. Dreads are overdone these days in football. People really just want them because they stick out of the helmet and then you're easily recognizable.

Can anybody find an old UVa dreadlocks pic of Vince Redd online? I've seen one before when he played for UVa, and if that pic can be posted, it would really show you the contrast between then & now.

LU. He's in LU gear and that's our academic center in the FOC.

Well, it was my question ... so certainly I was going to use the response. :)
