I don't think anybody was busting on the band members. Although maybe they were. The impression I got from this thread was people were wanting them to play more and wear school colors.

ludeal and theoneandonly are out of line.

Our band has actually made great improvements. They were back in the seats for the 3rd quarter...they are over twice as large as when I was in it in 96 and 97...

They are a CORPS style band...and for what they do, they are good. As far as comparing to High School bands...when I was in PA, IUP has a great CORPS style band. However, they're drill was simplier than some of the highschool bands in the same area.

WHY? Because college bands normally have 1 week band camp, and practice about 3x a week for 2 hours. In high school we practiced band camp for 2 weeks and every day after school for about 2 1/2 hours. You just can't practice as long in college, because classes are more of a priority.

FOR ME, I would much rather see a CORPS style band than a traditional one. And for the makeup of our student body, a CORPS style band is better (we are not an HBCU people).

Most of you have been talking about things that could be improved...but a few have just bashed the band.

For those, I offer this...Being from PA, being invited to the college band festival at Allentown is an honor. They only invite good bands. In PA, Allentown is known as band city USA. They used to host TOB chapionships...now they host a DCI regional and the college show every year. Just the fact that LU has been invited to Allentown the past 2 years shows that the program is headed in the right direction.

If you ever attend the Lynchburg classic...the other band members LOVE the LU band, they get standing ovations. For a CORPS style band, Dr. Kerr has done a good job.

If you want to change the shirt color, or think they need flipfolders and more music...that's productive criticism. But to come on and say the band blows, or the band is terrible...that's just misinformed non-sense.

Well said Jim.

I was impressed with the sheer numbers increase. The band seems to have grown by a large number this year, which bodes well for the future. I also noticed that the PA team was quick to throw music on, thus eliminating some of the opportunities the band had to play. The length of the show at halftime doesn't really matter to me, as long as the show itself is entertaining (which it was). I know this is selfish, but I wish the band would turn at least once and play towards the student side. The 7500+ on our side deserve to hear it too. I love the idea of putting the band in end zone for two reasons. One, it would create the appearance of the "horseshoe" type look without any renovations. Two, it would be deadly for opposing teams on that end of the field. It might not work logistically, but I think it would be absolutely incredible. Not to mention that you would be able to hear them better.

I thought that the band did a good job with the time they were given, and it was good to see the band increase in size. The only issue I had was with the color of the shirts, which I'm sure we'll be adjusted in the coming weeks.

They used to face the student side once or twice per year. I'm sure they still do this.

They do. They did it in alternating games last year.

We are actually planning to play to the student side this weekend (because we know you want to enjoy this music just as much as the Baptist side did when we played to that side this past Saturday)
