[/quote]Survivor: Austin Walks The Plank

NEW YORK, April 7, 2006

"I walked out of there without having to lie and I kept my integrity."

Austin, after being cast off "Survivor"

(CBS) Loose lips sink ships and that's not all. Blabbermouth syndrome is also a bad strategy, it seems, when trying to capture that million dollar prize on "Survivor: Panama – Exile Island."

Austin Carty, the 24-year-old author and model from High Point, North Carolina, found himself kicked out of the game in a 6-3 vote after admitting that he had deliberately lost an immunity challenge as a tactic to make the Casaya alliance think he was weak.

"That was so stupid to let them know my plan," Austin lamented soon afterward, hoping he'd be able to recover, "because now I'm afraid people are questioning whether they really trust me."

And they didn't – ultimately expelling him as a game player, and therefore a threat to their own hopes and ambitions. Visiting The Early Show Friday, Austin said he wasn't at all surprised. "It was pretty much a foregone conclusion," he said.

Asked by co-anchor Julie Chen whether Terry betrayed Austin by refusing to give him the immunity idol, Austin said no, but that he did feel let down. "I feel disappointed. I think that strategically he could have made a better move on his own part by giving me the idol. We could have got Aras eliminated and I think the tribe would have fractured at that point," he said. "But that's all hindsight and hindsight is 20/20."

In a secret scene, shown only on The Early Show, Austin revealed he'd been thinking about the immunity idol and had hatched a sneaky plan.

Coming over here, my original intention with the idol was to make a forgery to look like I had found the idol. I happen to have the amulet that I won the very first reward challenge in my bag. And all I did was take this scepterish-looking bamboo rod and wrap the amulet that I had around it to make it look like a hidden immunity idol. I wanted Danielle to see so that way she would believe that I had the hidden immunity idol. I think that my scheme is brilliant. But it's eating me up inside, and I believe I've reached the point where I found out what I'm not willing to do for a million dollars. So I'm not going to do it.

Even after getting the boot, Austin stands by that decision. "I pride myself on being honest," he told Chen. "I don't think it would have been such a bad thing for me to use that. I don't think it would have been the most dishonest thing in the history of the world. But at the same time I walked out of there without having to lie and I kept my integrity."

I met him once or twice in passing. He had a pretty distinctive face so I recognized him pretty quickly on the show.

What was he like, you may ask?
He was a soccer player. 'Nuff said.

Frankly, knowing an LU guy was on the show was the only reason I watched this season.

Don't forget the Muellers from "Who Wants to Marry My Dad?". The one daughter (Heidi? I think?) parlayed their reality series into a role on Passions (the NBC soap opera), I believe.

I knew Austin and I believe you are correct he was voted off the LU Isle. Good kid overall. I beleive tthe girl on Tuff Enough was Rebecca Green? She was a Track and Field athlete. She had to leave the show b/c they were repoing her moms trailer home. I worked with one of the guys that was on that season and he said she would have been the real deal and the producers did everything they could to get her to stay.

Josh Cox is a spokesperson for some nutrition bar. His picture is plastered all over D1ck's Sporting goods near the checkout line. (does the filter change the name Dick to Thingy like the other one did). I guess when I hit enter I will have my answer.

'Cargo area is important'

December 3, 2005

Josh Cox, a full-time marathoner since 2000, was sponsored this year by Power Bar and Oakley. Cox, 30, grew up in San Diego and lives in the Murrieta area.

When he's not running a race, pacing a race or training in Europe, he sells real estate in San Diego; other interests include surfing and snowboarding.

Cox, a contender on last year's "The Bachelorette" TV show, owns a Hummer H2 and a BMW M3.
The biggest downside to the Hummer is fuel mileage, which he says is about 9 miles to the gallon.

"But it's a fun car. I got it from a buddy who's a baseball player and he tricked it out.

"It's great for moving stuff. I can get everything inside. If I get the call to help move a mattress, I can fit the whole thing inside.

"It's huge, but you know you are driving a truck."

His vehicle requirements include size and comfort.

"I'm never going someplace just by myself. And with all the boots, multiple boards and everything else, cargo area is important," he says.

And if he's not comfortable, it doesn't matter what kinds of bells and whistles are going on.

"It's like buying a running shoe. If it's not going to be functional, it doesn't matter how cool it looks."

His choices for winners: First, Range Rover Sport; second, Mercedes-Benz ML-Class.
