New Obama Thread

Since we can't get any good feedback from any Obama supporters, I thought this link would help spur a nice discussion on the next president:

I am surprised more is not being spoken about his cousin leading the opposition/rebellion in Kenya. Allegedly Obama has been a financial backer of Raila Odinga. Google him.

There's so many things wrong with that statement, it's just silly.
- Granted, Obama is cousins to half the known world at this point but his family in Kenya denies the familial relationship with Odinga.
Second, Odinga, as the leader of the opposition, legitimately won the disputed elections of 2007 over Kabaki.
Thirdly, describing the ensuing violence as "rebellion" is missing the subtle fact that said violence was tribal in nature, not political.
Fourthly, it ignores the fact that the crisis ended in February with a power-sharing agreement between Odinga and Kakiki.
(You want to go geo-polical? We can go geo-political, baby!)

The crisis didn't end in February. It is an ongoing political power play where our junior Senator from Illinois has expended a great deal of effort assisting his cousin/comrade/whatever. Here is a Canadian story that ran a few days ago about the connections ...
Obama-Odinga Connection story
For someone who allegedly is not related, Barry sure seems to have a surprising interest in this Qadaffi-connected socialist.
Geopolitical discussions are always enjoyed by yours truly. I may be heading to this region next month and I have been busy boning up as a result.

The Canada Free Press is a political rag. Like you, they enjoy throwing the word "allegedly" around a lot.

Reportedly sources tell me that you may or may not be able to verify an alleged similarity based on the facts as they are known at this moment. We'll update as developments warrant .. or not.

He enjoys playing the devil's advocate if someone will engage him. I've been known to act as such from time to time.
You'll notice the only remarks regarding the contents of the editorial are the shots at its journalistic reputation. It was an editorial but it was sourced rather nicely.

I just find it funny that it's supposed to be things "we may not know" about Barack, yet almost everything on there, we knew from the get go.

Not everybody was paying much attention to Obama when his background was being discussed early in the campaign. Now that he is one of two real options for the White House there are scads of folks discovering exactly who this guy really is.

True... but still, a lot of this stuff, even the supporters of the other candidates knew about. Oh well.

I get sick of people that throw out allegations and present them as fact under the guise of "journalism". It does no good to be right if you get there by being wrong.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. I do NOT enjoy playing devil's advocate. I have never taken a position on this board that I did not believe. Just because I would rather argue fact as opposed to popular conjecture does not make me a devil's advocate. If I'm arguing with you it's because you're wrong.
As for attacking the CFP's journalistic reputation, said reputation clearly deserves attacking and anything that proceeds from the pages of that rag is tainted and unworthy of a serious reader's time. You don't buy steak from the guy who's trying to sell you bull**** just because he has a cow.

I thought you left vowing never to return. Or, at least, that's what you said when you were dropping f-bombs on me.
You see how this works now? You throw conjecture out there, I throw out fact.

Cussing people out, hoping to be banned, only to return days later = Problems
Bringing facts, logic, real reason, and a good way with words, not to mention actually being funny= RTF
I see a difference here.
