Was just talking about this with a few folks. I don't even know the word I can use to describe how I feel about the fact that there were 4 votes by Supreme Court Justices going against it. Their job is to determine the constitutionality of laws. And they think an amendment set forth by the original authors of the constitution, is unconstituional? It's listed 2nd on our BILL OF RIGHTS. This is just mind blowing.

How ever history judges President Bush, I'm thankful that he got his justices approved. I'm also thankful the Dems on Capitol Hill are the most spineless creatures to scurry about and wouldn't stand up to an unpopular president. LUconn makes a good (and quite frankly, scary) point about the 5-4 deision. This should be an eye opener for all Republicans. Who do you want nominating judges the next 4-8 years? I hope McCain understands this

I thought maybe we might be testing the validity of "you can take my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.". Crap like this is very worrisome.

Dems like to scream and yell that this administration has chucked the constitution. Yet, here is there own ilk trying to take an eraser to it.

Gun rights - in the Bill of Rights.

Abortion - can't find that anywhere. (Though there is the line of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

This is our Democratic party folks. When you can't get your agenda agreed upon by the people, circumvent them and go through the courts - where checks and balance does not exist. WTF????

Sorry for the rant.

What we do not want is a situation where someone goes into a building like the Capitol and goes nutso with an assault rifle or something. Who would a gun toting perp be more afraid of...a room full of unarmed congressmen or a room full of congressmen packing 9mm on their collective hips who are not afraid to use them should the perp try anything funny?

BJ, i'm pretty sure there is some security measures in place to keep people with assualt rifles out of the capitol building, so that theory doesn't really work.
i'm very glad that this passed, but what our country is coming to is pathetic. i was just telling someone yesterday that it is ridiculous that liberals can say that something in the bill of rights is unconstitutional. that makes absolutely zero sense. i'm afraid that after this next election we will see more and more retarded junk like this coming out of washington, but i'm afraid next time the vote may go the other way.

There are still restrictions on where you can have a gun and government buildings and public schools are among the places where you can't. Are you saying you should be able to?

Politicians shouldn't have guns. They'll just shoot themselves.

I was simply stating that people should be able to carry guns in order to defend themselves. It is very disturbing to me as well that something that was second only to freeedom of speech and religion in the Bill of Rights came very close to being declared unconstitutional.

As for your question LUconn, I think that if you have a permit for the gun and are properly trained in its use and in gun safety, you should be able to carry it with you wherever.
