My 2 year old is being "interviewed" by a preschool right now. Is this standard or absurd?

I'd say the interview is standard, but the 2 year old in preschool is absurd. That should cover everything.

explain on the latter. she's got a December birthday so she would basically be like a 3 year old who was born in the middle of the year. And it's not 5 days a week.

Nothing absurd about a 2-year old in preschool. FlickeringBrushFire has been in pre-school since he was 24 months. He's going into kindergarten this fall and, at this point, can spell better than at least 5 of our regular posters.

As for the "interview", I would guess it's just to make sure that the parents aren't trying to slip in a special needs kid w/o the preschool knowing about it.

My wife and I lived in the area up until about 6 years ago when a series of job offers came calling. Neither one of us is from there, though. I don't know what that makes us.

RTF has it nailed. It is a standard practice to interview to make sure the kid isn't special needs and the parents are complete nut cases.

Interview - Ours had it too - I took it as they basically want to make sure your child can follow directions and is ready for an organized setting. Sounds like a preschool similar to where mine went - where they actually teach them, not babysit them.

Are you local? I didn't think you were from here, but you must be if you know they are going to NC now - I like to refer to it as Dork School:) Great school, but man is it hard!!!!!

We tried to get into Heritage, but it was full. Also they seemed unwilling to put her a year ahead of her age group.

We're going with the local Montessori school. It seems a little hippy/new agey for my taste, but my wife went and observed and said that all of the kids there were doing things way above their age level.

We have friends that send their children there...You'll like it. One of those children will be with my youngest next year at NC. He seems pretty sharp.

I don't know if VA is like this, but I know in PA if you go to a private school that doesn't offer a sport (in this case football) you can play at the local public school in your district.

Wow, dating the girl four months and I already know about the sports rules in Pennsylvania. Wow. Just wow.

I know. I'm so small and my wife is so small - the chance either of my boys is big enough to play Football is probably a reach anyway. But, I'm not sure what I'm doing yet...my wife has left it up to me. I told her we would have both boys go to NC until the 6th grade and then we would re-evaluate. My oldest is in Kindergarten and he's already 4'2" - there's hope in Basketball and he loves to play baseball. They have those sports already.

It's a great school, My oldest son has blossomed this year - he has a great memory and can write clearer than me. They don't memorize one verse every week and call it an accomplishment, but have to recite in front of the class a chapter, 12 line poem or like, every Friday!!! What he has retained is amazing - he can tell you the Lord's prayer in English and in Latin, can count to 100 by 1s, 5s, 10, and 20s - which is difficult for a Kindergarten student. He can sing the National Anthem - I even mess that song up and can can tell you the 91 most influential dates in History. Was telling me about 9/11 last week in detail. Sad to know your children know what this world can really be like:(

Sorry to go off, but I'm proud of my boy and I'm happy with the education he is getting there.
