Which Honda to purchase?

Trying to do my part to help the economy

, I am going to purchase a new car in the next 1-2 weeks and will likely purchase an Accord, CRV or Civic. Has anyone on the board researched/purchased a new Honda in the last couple of years? Any recommendations? I was surprised to see the Civic is not the "basic" car that it was in the 80's.

HONDA FIT has great reviews...if you can handle something that small. I have even considered briefly trading my 2000 Tacoma in for one...and I understand they're coming out with a new version in 09.
Otherwise, you can never go wrong with the Accord.
We are tickled with our 08 Accord...4 cylinder has plenty of power and gets 31-33 MPG on hwy. I can recommend the Accord 100%.

If you don't mind me asking, what does your Accord get around town?

And, Fumble, what kind of gas mileage does your Tacoma get?

my tacoma gets around 16 in town, 18-19 on the highway. its a v6
i just saw an ad on tv for the pilot, it has the thing where it runs on 3 cylinders on the highway, so it gets decent mileage. they didn't give any numbers though

i would pick up an accord. you still have haggle room. they are not budging on prices on the civics...don't even try...
if you are looking at the accord however, look into the 3 series or the 1 series bmw. i drive my bosses 3 series alot and on the highway he gets 35 mpg...with 1 series i've been driving for a few days it said i was getting 35 in town (his car is getting its annual and they gave him the 1 series, i've traded cars with him for a few days). i think they start at 28k. about the same as the accord...

Second 'Rooskies.
Have an 06 Civic and an 06 Accord (after giving up a Toyota and Mercury to the junkyard)...can't go wrong with either one. With the exception of the occasional parking lot fool who flunked parking lot etiquette dinging, scratching and chipping the finish, no complaints about the vehicles themselves. We've travelled up 95 to the Northeast a couple times a year and we simply alternate trips with them. The Accord has a more "floaty" sedan feel which is to be expected, and the Civic (which is the same design as the 09) has a lot more "zip." It's kind of like a poorman sports car. In fact, it can be quite perilous switching from driving the Accord to the Civic in a given day as the civic has much tighter steering and braking response. (Ours are 4 cyl.)
We have the middle model on both...which is plenty adequate with the good niceties (air, power, decent stereo, decent upholstery, alarm, et al...simply sans navigation and a sunroof.) Honda's are kind of easy to determine which you want as, unlike Toyota, they have three models (four if you count the LXSE model which adds alloy wheels to the LX model.) DX is bare bones, LX is mid-grade and EX has all the bells and whistles. There are no special packages to add on et al.
We got ours for our goal price of 3% over true invoice, not sticker, (fair profit point for the dealer) less dealers incentives by going through the internet managers from each dealership. If you don't mind driving and don't need it yesterday, it's kind of fun to play the dealers off each other. I have some info on how to do that if you would like (but again I enjoyed the "haggling" part, although 90% of the dealerships I dealt with (about a dozen or so) were cordial and pleasant. Suffice it to say, it is pretty fun to have dealerships falling over themselves effectively bidding down for your business. In fact, I still have the occasional personal email from some of the managers asking if I need to replace any other vehicles. PM if you would like it.
Hope that helps.

I've never heard anyone say a bad word about the CR-V. You can't go wrong with any of them. My daughter has a 93 Accord with 140K and it runs like a champ!

Hands down the best car I ever had was an Integra. Pwerhaps that is why I lean toward Honda in this discussion.

I currently own a 97 CRV with 159000 miles on it. It is much more reliable than our 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. We have never had any problems with the Honda.

I have a 2006 CRV and I LOVE it! It's a great car. It gets up to 30 mpg on the highway. I need something a little bigger than an Accord so I can carry around all my work stuff for calling on customers. They changed the model in 2007. The new model is nice but wouldn't be big enough for me.
Before that I had a 95 Accord for 11 years and it had close to 200K miles when I gave it up. I had a Civic before that and it had more of a tin can feel. The Accord was definitely a nicer car. I know the Civic has changed alot in recent years so that might not apply any more.
My sister observed that you almost never see Hondas by the side of the road.

I actually work for a Honda dealership up here in PA (in my free time). If you can find a "Certified" used Civic, that is the way to go. Certified's would be in the 04-07 range. Those puppies will run till the cows come home. if you need any technical or parts advice, i'll be glad to help. especially for any Honda...acura is the lexus to toyota.[/b]

I bought a 2000 CRV in Nov. 06. I love it. I know the new CRV body style is much different but you can't go wrong with Honda reliability.
Incidently, if you are looking for a little more HP you might like the Accord. CRV's are 4 cyl. My favorite perks are the 4wd, great visibility, and handling. It handles much better than my 98 camry.
