... and I have to tell you that I'm very pleased thus far. They dropped the fiber in my backyard a couple of weeks ago. But it took me until Monday to get it installed in my house because the flood of Comcast refugees has my phone company swamped with requests.

Pricewise it is slightly cheaper than Comcast. But the quality of service has been much improved with dealing with the evil cable provider.

And their internet service has been lightning quick compared to my Comcastic experience and that's where the cost savings really are obvious based on comparable speed.

I realize Lynchburg is still a few years away. But I wanted to let you know how sweet it will be when you have a real option besides DirecTv to disable the cable.

I can't wait until they get fiber in my area. Congrats.

AT&T (our local phone co) had told us they didn't anticipate dropping fiber in our neighborhood for 2-3 more years. But the overwhelming success of their rollout in Houston as customers flee Comcast has pushed them to install more fiber at a rapid rate to cash in on the timing. I suspect markets that are serviced by Comcast (which is generally regarded as having the worst customer experience in the business) will be targeted by telephone companies looking to make quick inroads. That could mean Lynchburg at some point in the not too distant future.

BTW AT&T calls their service U-verse. Anybody have Verizon's FIOS on here?

I just got DSL available to me like last month and still can't get cable. Can I expect this at my house before I die?

New build is getting fiber first. All telephone companies are using fiber when they install new lines. But existing lines are going to be behind everyone else.

I am using U-Verse here at home in Indiana. It's amazing. TV is great, phone is great, and internet is great.

I wish the electric companies would get on board with BPL, they're missing a huge opportunity there. I'd be all over that if it were available.

Oh yeah, well, I replaced my carbs with fiber. Not very pleased with THOSE results.

Oh, yes, that's right. I think most of us had forgotten about that. A-TRAIN USED TO LIVE IN FARMVILLE EVERYONE.

We have had it (FIoS) almost a year (phone, internet, TV) and it is excellent.

One downside, the ppv menu is the worst and it is very slow.
Once you make your selection you are back living the dream :D

We have the FIoS mid-level broadband - it is blazing.

Great concept, but it is not ready to compete with existing offerings.
