BOSSES who block access to MySpace and Facebook at work risk losing valuable staff to other companies, new research has found.

Almost half of those who use MySpace and Facebook during work hours say they would refuse a job where they were not allowed access to social networking sites, according to the study by Australian law firm Deacons.

This poses a dilemma for employers who fear the effects of social networking sites on productivity and privacy but need to retain staff in today's tight jobs market.

I think I would take the job...especially if it paid well. Facebook is fun, but money is better.

this is stupid....there are tons of people looking for work there with an unemployment rate of 4.9%....

seriously, those people saying they wouldn't accept the job are all talk.

If you can't withhold from Facebook for 8 hours, you have serious issues.

this is stupid....there are tons of people looking for work there with an unemployment rate of 4.9%....

but how many of those 4.9% actually WANT jobs? (not to mention 4.9% is quite rediculously low historically)

this is stupid....there are tons of people looking for work there with an unemployment rate of 4.9%....

Anything 5% and under is mostly just frictional unemployment. I'm sure they have some workers looking, but not many.

That's what I was thinking. Wait, did you mean salary?

I don't get it. Facebook and myspace are okay, but possibly one of the most boring forms of networking/time-wasting ever. Definitely not something I'd want to stare at and constantly check all day long.

hey, message boards are much more interesting than stale "personal" pages that all eerily look exactly the same. And with flamefans at least you don't run the risk of getting bombarded with hundreds of the stupidest applications ever thought of on a daily basis, you just have to deal with some of the stupidest comments ever thought of daily. Sure, it's free, but boring.

I have to check facebook to find out if someone fed my virtual dog.
