I've had like three threads completely deleted off the board? Why is it deleted and not locked?

I didn't do it.

what are they about? You don't sound like you're objecting to them being locked.

I mean, I'm not mad or anything, I just don't understand.

This one was sign ideas for a Bill Clinton speech I was going to. I think the last one was about JB dropping his name from consideration at LSU. The explination was there was already one on it, but I looked for it and never saw it, unless it got deleted too. I thought usually if there was already a thread on a topic, it was locked. I'm just trying to understand what goes on with the moderators when it come s to locking and deleting. It must be subjective.

The JB thread is under other sports at the very top as a sticky. It's still there.

oh yeah, you're right about the Bill Clinton thread. The last comment I read was somebody saying some of the comments were inappropriate for this board. I guess if it's something an admin doesn't want read by visitors, locking isn't good enough. Which makes sense because you can still read it after it's been locked.

That's dumb. It shouldn't have been deleted.

The more I watched the thread the more uncomfortable I became about its presence on the site. I had several people approach me about taking it down. Sorry for being the old hag but it was pushing the boundaries of what might be deemed appropriate for a board that is connected with LU.

It seems the mod should be able to delete only the "inappropriate" post or posts and then lock the thread rather than deleting the whole thing. Sometimes a discussion that ends up in the toilet contains some good posts before things go downhill.

Exactly. Take out the bad stuff, leave the rest.

In this most recent case it went downhill after post #1. So I just went ahead and wiped out all six posts in the thread.

I think some of you realize that I don't delete or ban very lightly. But the sexual innuendo does exceed the boundaries of a board tied to a Christian school from time to time.

Now I wish I would have read that thread

TB looks much better in the team photo than LB.

Ok - thanks for answering my question Sly. I hope I didn't post anything considered sexual inuendo - I just asked for sign suggestions to go to a Hilary rally where Bill was speaking. I've seen a million sexual inuendos on threads and it never got deleted, and it's not the first time this has happened that I started a thread that didn't get locked, but completely deleted like it never existed. Just wondering.

Trust me, it has nothing to do with any individual poster. But there tends to be a pack mentality around here that once somebody pushes close tot he line that the next person pushes further and so on until it goes way over the line. Its typical of most boards but we aren't most boards.
