Vista SP1

The Office service pack came out about a month or so ago. This past week Microsoft finally released their long awaited SP1 for Vista users. If you are on Windows Vista and you haven't downloaded & installed this large file yet you might want to get on it. Allegedly this will cure most of Vista's ills and I certainly hope so.

But be forewarned, it takes quite awhile to install it. So don't start the process until you can live without the computer for an hour or so.

It was supposed to have a zillion patches ... and I know my desktop needed a bunch of them. Its running smoother already.

it's supposed to come via windows update. not everyone got it on the first day of its release, they gradually send it out to everyone so it wont overload their servers or whatever.

This is true. Go to your Control Panel on Vista and then go to 'Classic View' and the last icon should be 'Windows Update'. Check for updates and you may even find some other new ones that may help you. They just made available a Blackberry patch of some sort that I just downloaded.

I love my new laptop with Vista on it but all of the sudden I'm getting error messages that my Spooler SubSystem App stopped working and was closed. . . . . so i'm having problems printing at home and at work. I downloaded the Vista SP1 thingy hoping that would fix it but it didn't :( I will just have to keep trying out some other way....

That is one of the litany of problems we have experienced at various times on our Vista desktop. You can manually go in and restart the spooler but Vista will go back and shut it down once again. Let me try to to remember how we finally got that resolved. Off the top of my head I believe I reinstalled the printer drivers.

Exactly, that's what I've been doing, trying to manually fix it but then it goes back and reverses it. I've attempted to download the driver but it won't let me go in and install it....the links aren't "clickable" <---is that a word?

My FIL had to uninstall SP1 because of some problems with his system -- the thing crashed three times on Saturday alone. I'm still hanging on to XP.
