I have an XBOX 360 Premium (20GB hard drive, 2 wireless controllers) with MLB 2k8 (wife bought it last night and it keeps freezing up at the load screen!), Guitar Hero III with Les Paul guitar and Madden 08. I also have a Wii (2 controllers, 2 nunchuks) with Wii Sports. I almost never play on XBOX Live except when a friend wants to play a game of Madden which is rare. I haven't played Wii since Christmas. I'm seriously thinking about selling both systems and getting the 40GB PS3. Does anybody know what kind of trade-in value I'd get at Gamestop for all the above? If I'd get ripped off too much, I'd probably try to sell on ebay. I really want to get enough to come close to covering the purchase of the PS3 ($400), wireless remote ($50), BluRay remote ($25), component cables ($20) and The Show 08 ($60). I have a $100 in gift cards to Best Buy and Circuit City ($50 each) to put toward it. I have heard pros/cons about the PS3 but I really want the BluRay player and I'm sick of the 360 and its unreliability. Any thoughts?

if you sold the wii and xbox360 i'd say you'd have more than enough to pay for the ps3. seriously, the reviews on the ps3's blu ray playback are saying its just as good if not better than stand alone players.... especially if you dont play online...ps3 has a way to go with the # of games but thats only because it came out a year later...

also, get ready because the word is microsoft wants to launch a new gaming platform next year which will drive what you can get for your xbox 360 down....

yeah, that would be a huge mistake for microsoft. If you don't like your 360, and apparently your Wii, then sure, you might as well sell it. I don't see any reason not to.

it follows the timeline though..xbox came out in 01, 360 came out in 05, new platform in 09.

playstation is on the 6 yr plan...so don't expect anything until 2012....

If you buy a PS3, keep in mind that they aren't all backwards compatible with PS2 games. If that's a big deal to you, make sure you get one that is. Either way, PS3 is way ahead of the game on Blu-Ray playback capability; if I was going to buy a Blu-Ray player today, I'd probably go with a PS3 even though I'm not a gamer.

Backward compatibility isn't an issue for me. I sold all my PS2 games about 4 years ago when I switched to the original XBOX. I'll be picking up the 40gb which doesn't offer backward compatibility if I decide to go with the PS3. I'm almost sold at this point.

yeah, I couldn't give two farts about playing PS2 games on a PS3 system. I bought the next gen system for a reason = I want next gen graphics. I must say, College Football 08, College Hoops 2k8, & MOH:Airborne look sweet.

I read this message board all the time of course when i am at work and have posted once or twice ....i saw this post and would highly suggest the PS3 it is amazing i have had mine for about 6 months and have loved every minute of it..plus seeing that you like the mlb game MLB the Show for ps3 is far better than 2k8

Only think I really look at when getting a new video game system (console or hand held) is the games. Whichever one has a better selection of hte types of games I like is the one that gets my money, regardless of the graphics and non-gaming features. For example, I was choosing between a PSP and a Nintendo DS and the DS seemed to have more puzzle and roleplaying games (I don't relaly like sports games on handheld systems) than the PSP, so i went with the DS even though the DS has inferior graphics and doesn't have all those fancy non-gaming features that the PSP has.

ahhhh one of the best baseball games ever made...too bad they lost the rights..
