I was not happy when John (all but liberal) McCain came to LU graduation shortly after denigrating Jerry and LU, and I would certainly not be happy about the most liberal Senator in the government, who is more socialist than anything (AND refuses to wear a US flag lapel pin) to speak at my alma mater.

The fact is that he should not be given the publicity that a speaking engagement at LU would bring, ESPECIALLY when he is against everything that Liberty stands for.

Yeah, God forbid someone who is actually a conservative come speak at a conservative university. You know, they might start saying radical things like letting the states decide their own laws, spending government money responsibly, doing away with the IRS, limiting the size of the federal government and protecting the sanctity of life.

I mean, radical stuff like that kinda sounds like what is in the Constitution.

GOD FORBID!

We have a history of letting people with whom we have absolutely no affinity speak. Ted Kennedy & Jesse Jackson anyone?

It further destroys the stereotype that we are sheltered in the Liberty bubble.

I was there. It only made news around that area of the country. Do you guys really think the rest of the country cares who speaks at LU? It might get a blurb on the back page if satan himself spoke there.

guys this is far from the first time a liberal has spoken at LU....Dr. Falwell would've loved to have someone like Obama speak at Liberty...not because he agrees with him or supports him...anybody that doesn't see the benefits of having presidential candidates speak at our school is completely out of touch....but oh well

During the VMI game at halftime they interviewed Jerry Jr. and he said they were in the works to get some more candidates come to LU and that students would have to bite their lip....

so, yeah, Obama.

And Witham's not the type of guy to be throwing out names unless it wasn't so.

I totally agree. This is the area where I think Jerry is missed most. I think both JJ and Jonathan have done amazing things for both the university and church. Jerry was a master at relationships. Just about everyone who met him personally, liked him. Even his most outspoken critics. He had a good influence, even on his political/social enemies. I would have loved for Jerry to have had 15 minutes alone with Obama.

I hope Liberty continues to bring in the Jackson's, Kennedy's, Obama's, Clinton's of this world to Lynchburg. I also hope that Jerry Jr. and Jonathan create relationships with these men/women that would open the door to the gospel for them.

what has happened to you people? Take a look at yourselves! How can any self-respecting conservative christian vote for this man? what has happened to the LU that I graduated from just a few short years ago? You might as well take the name off the school of government. Jesse Helms should come back from the grave and kick all of you in the butt and then do the same to Obama and the Clintonista movement.

I don't think anybody here is gonna vote for him except for GMTM apparently.
