Diapers

Okay, so Mrs. '01 is due in two weeks. Yikes. The teachers at my school threw a diaper shower today. (My man card had to be revoked for an hour.) We got exactly 1,252 diapers.
My question is, how long will that many diapers last the little guy? I ask for 2 reasons. 1)I am curious as to when I will have to start buying them. 2)The male teachers are starting a pool as to when we will run out and I want to win.

Subtract 1000 from the total...the remainder is the # of days you will have diapers for. Thus, in this case, you are looking at 252 days.

I'm going with 180 days- figure roughly 6-8 a day for the majority of the first 6 months.
then again, my kids crapping pattern isn't entirely predictable.

make the kid fast every once in a while, that will save on diapers

good point.
We went thru a TON of Size 1's in the first 5-6 weeks .
Weeks 7 on we've been in the 2's and I think he's halfway thru them- probably be into 3's by the end of March.

Most of my kids have gone through 10-15 diapers a day for the first few weeks before settling down to 6-10 until they are six months old. My 12-month-old still goes through about a half dozen a day.
And don't get caught up in high end diapers. Waste ... of ... money.

Waste of money? You're like those doctors who used to think it was okay to perform surgery on fetuses without anesthesia because "oh, they don't feel pain yet". Won't somebody please think of the children! Some of those knock-offs are like cardboard, and dealing with leakage is not fun, ever.

thats how it works.
and prior to that- you go by weeks: my son is now 10 weeks. Not 2 months, 10 WEEKS
the "weeks" thing gets ridiculous @ mid 20s. In fact, whenever I can't do the math- I figure its ok to start going by "months"
the "year" thing doesn't come into play until at least year 2.
so, you'll hear such things as "16 months" or "22 months"

Bet on one week.
Throw them out.
Win the pot.
Buy more diapers.

we tried the cheap diapers too...it was terrible...we did more loads of laundry because of those stupid things...huggies was the only way to go for use...the velcro was uber nice..

What's wrong with cloth diapers?

Cloth diapers are a major pain in the neck. Sure you can save a few bucks, but if you want to lose an hour or two everyday washing and then have to put up with the stench ...
When I was speaking of high end diapers there are several brands that make you pay a premium for the same diaper you can get at Target et al. I only use diapers with velcro but we pay less than half of what the standard rate is for Pampers these days.

We could only use Pampers for our kids or they rashed. We wanted to be cheap but could not. I would say 10 diapers a day for the first 3 months sounds about right.

Two of the highlights in child rearing...
The day you no longer have to buy formula
and
The day you no longer have to buy diapers!!!

I thought I'd be rich when the kids got out of diapers.......then thier feet started growing. Oh, and now they want cars. Yep, you'll go through those diapers in no time flat! As long as you're out there buying more diapers you might as well stock up on golf balls too. You can never have enough of either!

another question. Is this your first kid? It took us a while to learn when she needs her diaper changed and when you should actually change it. Such as, yes it's wet right now so it does need to be changed, but I know what's coming in about 15 minutes.

Yes, this is the first. Now, if you could answer your own question in the last line of your post, I would appreciate it!
