Lee County is Western, and a good distance from Miami/Dade. It's encompassing pretty much all of the peninsula, including my hometown and where I grew up... Craziness. From Tampa, all the way down around the peninsula and up to Jacksonville.
Good ol' FPL will sort things out somehow.

hysteria subsiding somewhat now as Shep is reporting it may largely be a "brown-out" rather than a complete "black-out" everywhere.
then again- typical initial reports are conflicting; no one really knows what's actually going on yet.
Certainly NO power in many areas.
good luck to emergency services if this continues after dark

When the power goes out in West Virginia, no one even notices.

So they are saying Turkey Point which is a Nuclear Power Plant south of Miami went down and caused the rest of the plants up the coast to go down as well. I was on my lunch break and trying to get back to work when all of a sudden all the street lights went off. It turned a 10 minute drive into 45 minutes. My wife is a kindergarten teacher and she was not allowed to dismiss her class until almost 3:30 (school gets out at 2) because of the lights situation. Not fun! Everything is pretty much back to normal...well for South Florida anyway.
