Who is your favorite college basketball color commentator not named SCAR?

I'm going with Jay Bilas. He provides smart and informed commentary, seems objective, he doesn't sugercoat things and will criticize a team - including Duke if need be, plus he's not annoying and obnoxious like Vitale.

Bilas is the best.

Bilas...although Vitale BEFORE he became the cartoon known as Dicky V was VERY GOOD (all you have to do is listen to early 80's ESPN Classic).

I remember watching an ESPN classic from the SEC Championship back in the early 1990s, and i think it was LSU vs. Arkansas. In any event, it was towards the end of the game when Vitale says something to the effect of "everyone always talks about Shaq (who was playing for LSU) -- but this guy* is also going to be right there with him in the NBA."

* -- Lee Mayberry, who you may remember as having a storied NBA career that, as Dick Vitale predicted, did parallel Shaquille O'Neal's, with the exception of points, rebounds, leadership, strength, dominance, longevity and marketability. Mayberry averaged about 5 points a game, played in less than 500 of them, and was out of the league before entering his prime years.

Well you can't be correct on ALL the guys that go to the nba. No one is THAT good, not even the Spurs who are nba draft masters.

Hmmm it's a tough call with Bilas vs Raftery. Luckily, they do most of their games together so I don't have to choose. But I think a quote list like this puts the old man over the top:
"Give it to the big fella!"
"Send it in, Jerome!"
"The Big Guy"
"With disdain to the tin!"
"Send it in, Verne!"
"...with the kiss!"
"With the sweet kiss, off the glass..."
"With a little dipsy do"
"Dagger!"
"Onions!"
"Nylon!"
"The vegetable cart"
"Put a little english on it"
"With the teardrop, that'll make you cry"
"Panties on the deck"
"We got a little nickel-dimer here"
"The small change"
"With the blow-by"
"With authority!"
"Send it in, big fella!"
"From the Right Wing!"
"There's a little lingerie on the deck"
"The bounce to ecstasy"
"You might call this Newton's Law!"[1]
"Most unattractive but beneficial"
"With the dribble drive"
"Attacking the tin!"
"Strong... to the goal!"
"Bring your lunch!"
"Elevation!"
"(insert co announcers name), (insert team name) goes man to man!"
"They're playing a (insert zone defense name) zone with man-to-man principles!"
"A little ricochet romance!"
"Get the puppies set!"
"He can do it all; let him into the band!"
"(insert player's name) with some early onions!"
"Fill the lane! Provide the lift!"
"He can make you ask for your mommy."
"Walter at the altar: High Mass!"
"Bottle of blackout!"
"Deployment!"
"Divine intervention!"
"With a little smoocher!"
"Protect the women and children!"
"Chubby Checker Do the Twist!"
Vern Lundquist: "I hope Dwayne Wade likes cajun cooking!" (dramatic 5 second pause, Bill Raftery: "JAMBALAYA!"
"A Large Edifice!"

Bilas, Raftery, & a rising star in Hubert Davis....maybe even Stacy Dales, as well.

Raftery is #1. Bilas is good, but he's always angry. I did, however, enjoy his recent column saying how absolutely worthless the RPI is, something I've always believed. Now somebody important has actually said it.

Ever since Raftery went on that ignorant rant about the MVC getting a bunch of bids one year instead of the ACC's 12th team getting a big, I've hated him ever since. I loved it when the MVC ended up sending I think two teams to the sweet 16 last year just to prove how ignorant Raftery is. He's always been a pompous jack*** and that only proved it more.

Calling Raftery ignorant and pompous, is just, well, ignorant and pompous.

So because he disagreed with you on 1 tournament bid, he's a pompous jack***. Got it.

Lately I've really started to like Bilas. Bilas does more studio stuff than Raftery, and he is really good at analysis. Raftery is a legend though and I think he is great. Gus is really good too, but isn't he more play-by-play than anything else.

Well, there is a reason that he only lasted a little over a season with the Pistons.

Anybody not named Packer or Vitale. I always liked Mike Hogewood growing up. He just seemed like a nice guy and a good fit for the ACC. I know he's not the best so I'd probably give that to Bilas at this point.

I, by my very nature, can't stand Bilas the DOOKIE!

Actually, I think most of the prime ESPN people are good, aside from Dickie V. Stacey Dales Schuman or however its spelled is pretty good as is Hubert Davis. I can't remember his name, but they got one guy that obsesses over toughness every single game he works, It's normally good analysis, but it gets old after a while.

Gus Johnson and Len Elmore are pretty good too.

I'd like to hear Charles Barkley do some color commentary! that would be interesting lol.
