I think McCain probably has the nomination wrapped up but stranger things have happened. I'll most likely vote for Huckabee on Tuesday.

Dobson is out of touch and completely irrelevant as far as I'm concerned.

irrelevent? Are you joking? He's practically a king maker.

Well if his endorsement matters then I think that I should hold a press conference and announce mine.

In my opinion, the Dobson's of the world are demonstrating disturbingly impractical tendancies in that they will only support or even vote for an evangelical. Good people like Romney are off limits for them. So, in effect, he supports an also-ran like Huckleberry, just because he's an evangelical. What's that all about?
To me, this isn't any different than voting for a black man, just because I'm black, or voting for a feminist because you're a feminist. Is this what some Christians have become reduced to?
If the Christian right does not become more pragmatic, then we run the risk of becoming irrelevant and lose out on the opportunity to influence this democracy in a positive way.

Well first it was to point out that you decided it was important to tell is you were black...and second you made me laugh outloud at work with the last statement. Paradox complaining that something may not be influenced in a positive way??? Your name associated with the word positive has to be an oxymoron.

Did you even read the article?
"My decision comes in the wake of my statement on Super Tuesday that I could not vote for Sen. John McCain, even if he goes on to win the Republican nomination," Dobson wrote.
"That left two pro-family candidates whom I could support, but I was reluctant to choose between them. However, the decision by Gov. Mitt Romney to put his campaign "on hold" changes the political landscape. The remaining candidate for whom I could vote is Gov. Huckabee. His unwavering positions on the social issues, notably the institution of marriage, the importance of faith and the sanctity of human life, resonate deeply with me and with many others."
I missed the part where he said, "I'm gonna vote for Huck because he's an evangelical!" He obviously had no problem giving the go ahead to Romney. He just didn't want to pick because it would hurt a candidate who isn't McCain.

Reading and making informed statements is not a rule of this board. Don't force your reasonable, civil ideas on him!

Maybe so. However, he was very hesitant to support Romney when he was in play and it actually mattered. I saw a Tony Perkins interview last month and he implied that his group would not be comfortable with a Romney nomination. Why?
Come on. This guy waits for Romney to drop out and then he immediately endorses a very impotent Mike Huckabee. This is a laugh. His group was never comfortable with a Romney nomination.

I agree. He should have endorsed someone like Fred Thompson last summer. He would have been the pragmatic alternative. Endorsing McLame or Romney has been tough for a lot of people. Romney's was a liberal and flip flopped and McCain is moderate. Romney has made a career out of pandering. At least with McCain you get the "straight talk express."

Probably because Tony Perkins is gay. You mean the Norman Bates guy, right? Wait, didn't he die?

Tony Perkins is an LU grad from the 80's. He's a former member of congress and is the current president of Dobson's Family Research Council, headquarted in DC.
