I went to a website that had the top 50 listed (it was leaked info) and about 10 or 15 of the people had previous record deals and one person was even a Grammy Nominated (he later dropped out because of the backlash he got). if you find that site it's nuts how many of them have professional pictures and such.

How do yall feel about people with previous record deals getting a shot? To me, they had their chance...this is for those who havent gotten their shot yet.

I think the website you visited is right...trying to keep "votefortheworst" from making a Sanjaya-type impact this year. Perhaps the talent pool is drying out...but I'd rather see the amateurs...although the gal from Oregon the first night can sure sing and is quite easy on the eyes.

Who cares? Pro or amateur, it doesn't matter. The winner's just going to turn out one crappy pop album followed by one crappy Christmas album and then get dropped from their label anyway.

And, for the record, this is nothing new. Kelly Clarkson actually got out of her record deal in order to get on the first American Idol.

I think it is television and most of the 'reality' we watch is not reality, but still fun to watch. I got to go and watch 'Ugly Betty' right now.

I'm pretty sure pro experience is against the official rules. It didn't stop Kelly Clarkson, but as I remember she was good at keeping it hush-hush until it was too late to do anything.
