It is the Democratic party, their ineptness knows no limit. Being ahead in the polls is just a buffer.

This election is theirs to lose, and I have full confidence they will do that admirably.

That's kind of what I was getting at there, but I don't think it makes a difference in regard to this data. The questions supposed that a candidate had already been nominated from each party and asked who they'd vote for. They polarized the respondents with the questions.

I still think the numbers will change significantly (one way or the other) on the way to November, but I think it's going to more likely be over something stupid a candidate says or does between now and then. Or maybe because someone will drop another swiftboat maneuver into the race again.

No, I'm not saying I think they're dead-on indicators, but they're usually fairly accurate representations at any given point in time.
