The greatest basketball player to play college ball since 1990 (note this is JUST COLLEGE, not what they have done in the pros). I will leave this open ended so people can nominate their players. I would recommend only including guys with at least 2 years of college basketball. Otherwise stats will be pretty lopsided in terms of team accomplishments (championships, team record, NCAA appearances/results, etc.) and individual accomplishments (scoring, tournament scoring, other stats, etc.) Plus we should try and see if we can't keep this list under 20-25 names. My nominations are:

Christian Laettner
Chris Webber
Jerry Stackhouse
Grant Hill
Jamal Mashburn
Tayshaun Prince
Jalen Rose
Shawn Respert
Mike Bibby
Bobby Hurley
"Shakin Bacon" Mark Macon
Shane Battier

O.k. there is a start. I chose the guys that were popular when I was in high school from the top of my head (I'm sure I missed several glaring players, but I got to go). Keep adding and then we can widdle them down to 20 or so. If you all would rather limit it to the 1990's, than we can do that as well (doing just the 2000's would exclude several that are still in college and have been for 2-3 years)

In my opinion, Antawn Jamison was better than Stackhouse and should have made the list.

-1 Tayshawn
-1 Battier
+2 Laettner (who should win despite the fact that I hate him).

Agreed. Jamison was better than Stackhouse at Carolina.

Yeah. But I'd start and end that list with Tim Duncan.

Marcus Camby was just as good, if not better, in college.

I still remember the '95 ACC champ game between UNC & WF. Randolph Childress put on a show & let us with this little gem...

That made me sick. I remember watching that at my friend Josh's house in middle school...

I was fortunate enough to see Duncan play a lot in college. My grandfather had Wake Forest season tickets on the 12th row so I saw a lot of great games. I saw Wake blow out UMass. Unfortunately, Camby had left early for the NBA and Carmelo Travieso was injured so it wasn't much of a game. I did to see Keith Van Horn play when Utah came to town. Duncan was better than Camby and Van Horn, but Camby was pretty close from what I saw.

Tayshawn was a good college player but should not be on this list. He developed once he got in the pro game. Raef LaFrenz 1997? was really good at Kansa and Ed O'Bannon 1995 at UCLA need to be considered. Larry Johnson 1990 at UNLV is one of the best I have ever seen. Jason Kid and Anfernee Hardaway were unstoppable in college. Gotta throw in Ray Allen and Allen Iverson. JJ Reddick should be mentioned too I think.

LSU had this guy named Shaquille O'Neal in 1990. I heard he was a pretty good player  Alonzo Morning at Georgetown was a beast around that time too. As far as events, big plays, winning, records and stats, no one had the career that Christian Laetner had. Other than UCLA players like Walton and Abdul Jabbar, I would say Laetner may have had the best college career ever! Not saying he was the best or even close but his experience is stuff dreams are made of.

Let's not forget that Tayshawn did score 4500 points in a big college program. Not too shabby, but I would agree that he probably doesn't belong in the top 20-25.

I agree on the others, but just started the thread with a few names that came to me off the top of my head (I was on my way out of the office). Continue to add names and we will put the final 20-25 list up for a heal or hurt.

4500 points??? That can't be right. Most top players only score in the 2000s. I'll look it up.

Yeah, please correct me if I am wrong. I often find myself reading things wrong. I'll look it up as well to make sure I am correct.

O.k. I'm retarded, he didn't score 2,000 points. I don't know where I heard he scored 4,500 points. Maybe he has scored that many in the pros so far? Regardless, sorry for the error!

(by the way, he would have had to average about 35 points a game from freshman year till senior year to make it happen)

4,500 would have put him in Pete Maravich territory. Of course, Maravich only scored 3,667 points since freshmen didn't play back then. Oh, and they didn't have 3 pointers either. His numbers are unbelievable (I don't care if his dad was the coach or not). He averaged 43.8 ppg in 67-68, 44.2 in 68-69 and 44.5 in 69-70 for LSU. He also scored 741 points for the freshman team in 17 games for 43.6 ppg.
