Since most of you are married and have been through this process, I want to hear about some honeymoon spots. I'm in the process now of looking at a few (surprise) places for the fiancee.

She wants to sit around the beach all day and I'd like at least some kind of activity--even if it's just a little hiking.

Suggestions, stories (I'm probably asking for it there), etc..

You're not even married and she's already resorted to this. You need to visit UVA for some of their viagra for women before you get hitched.

HIGHLY recommend you cruise the Carribean. Specifically, the South/West.

beaches at most every stop- and many activities (hiking, horseback riding, scuba, boating) and excursions along the way.

also- great food, 24 hr dining, very comfy beds and stocked wet bars.

7 days, top of the line suite w/ a balcony and airfare was less than 3k apiece for us in '06. I think we did the whole thing for about 5500 (?)

Another option would be an all-inclusive package vacation to one Caribbean destination. This would include airfare, lodging, meals/drinks, and excursions could be scheduled through the resort. I personally like a bit more adventure in my travel than an all-inclusive resort offers, but they are great for honeymooners. This site may be a good starting point.

A lot of the best deals are to the Dominican Republic. I would recommend Punta Cana or Samana. Depending on when you are there, a side trip to see a Dominican League baseball game is almost a must.

You can probably do an all-inclusive week for 2 for under $2000, depending where you are flying from.

Your best bet is to go to a travel agent. I know that's something that seems like only old people now, and seem antiquated but it's free and they're professionals. They make their money off of commissions, not you paying them.

LUConn is exactly right here- that's an important point I omitted, and they do NOT charge you extra.

we went thru the lady that does all the bookings for the local PD, Fire & EMS guys up here.

not only did she get better prices than we could online- she did all the legwork and we just signed the papers.

and when we got to our suite, we found that she had sent along Champagne and chocolate covered strawberrys as a surprise.

will use her again for SURE.

I went on a Carribean cruise for my honeymoon back in March and it was great. We stopped in Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Dominican Republic among other places. Very relaxing and tons to do and best part of all, the room and board is taken care of for you. I would recommend a Carribean cruise to anyone.

Caribbean cruise would be nice if you haven't done it before, if you have, I think it gets sorta old a second time. Cruises in general I think make for good honeymoons b/c it takes all the headaches out of travel, you are taken care of well and don't have to worry about feeding yourself, etc, which I assume would be good for after preparing for a wedding.

I'm still trying to figure out where I'm doing mine. I'm considering either a England-Italy trip, or a Mediterranean cruise.

Those sound nice. I went to a Sandals resort in St. Lucia. It was a wedding gift, but I assume it was very expensive so that may be out for you depending on your budget. But if you're gonna go for that, you won't regret it.

Also, if you do choose a cruise, be careful which cruise line you choose as the different cruise lines cater to different groups. The cruise line my wife and I were one (MSC Cruises) was primarily older European couples. It made for some interesting stories. It was given to us though so I won't complain to much. Royal Carribean, Norwegian, and Carnival (or any of their off-shoots) are all pretty safe bets.

heh. Yeah, you don't want to end up on some of the "themed" cruises either. Choose wisely.

Definitely go for Royal Carribbean over Carnival. I haven't heard good things from others who have done both.

If you're looking for exotic locale for a low price, be sure to check out Belize. I haven't been myself (went to Cancun for our honeymoon), but I've read a lot about it and it's one to definitely put on the list. It may be more for experienced travelers, but worth checking out.

I've been married 23 1/2 years and have yet to go on one. I have gone on a cruise (with a kid)...and would highly recommend Royal Caribbean.

We've done both and you definitely would prefer the former.

The Caribbean is always a great safe bet. I'd suggest Jamaica if you are into hiking as well as Belize.

Maui is the best place to go. You can go biking from the volcano down to the beach. You can visit Charles Lindbergh grave site. Visit the black beach there where the sand is black from the volcano. The sand anywhere there is fine like sugar. Go horse back riding. You can see famous people there, I saw Lew Alcindor shopping there years ago. By the way where ever you are on the island there is a breeze always. We had a hotel on the beach and had the windows opened the entire time there, it was great.

I wouldn't do a cruise. I love cruises, but they have their variables that I wouldn't want to deal with on my honeymoon - possibility of getting sea sick, the process of getting too and on a cruise ship can be tedious, too many activities (if you know what I mean), and the rooms and BEDS are small - having someone right next to you - makes things just a little more tame than they should be ;)

I did Hawaii and loved it for 7 days and then flew back to LA for 3 more. Loved it and had a blast. Pricey though. I saved for a year for that trip and I still couldn't afford a $5.00 Big mac over there.

If I were to do it now and on a budget - I would do an all-inclusive trip to the Caribbean. Your in one place, there's tons to do (if you want), the people are nice to tourist (because we represent their only commodity), and you can get great deals.

a couple of things

4everfsu wrote:You can visit Charles Lindbergh grave site.
this would probably last on my list of things to do in Hawaii.

Did you see him before 1971? If not, LOL at you for still calling him that.

Hawaii is always the place to go, so much variety, but so so expensive. Where I really wanted to go for my honeymoon was a small resort (name slips my mind after 5 years) in Cabo San Lucas, but I just couldn't afford it. I guess not having a job had something to do with that. I still hope to go there someday, if I can get someone to smuggle me and the wife under the fence.

Agreed....I actually got a 2 for one offer through After Hours where I got my suit...we got a balcony (free upgrade since she had cruised before) and an 8 day cruise for $3,000....it was amazing...all the food you could imagine...lounge around the pool, dinner and a show every night...nice beaches and if you have some extra money some very cool excursions, I would encourage you to do that....I loved it so much I can not wait til we can go again
