So I just got an e-mail from ebay from some guy who alleges i sold him something, and I haven't given it to him. I don't even have an ebay account, and i'm guessing someone got my e-mail addy and is using it. Should I contact ebay, and how?

It's a spam scam. Don't respond. Don't do anything. I've received such messages before. Best just to ignore it.

Ebay has always said they will NEVER email you. The only way they will contact you is through your messages in "My Ebay"

I got one of those once myself. I deleted the email and then checked my Ebay account for any contacts from them (which there were none). I would actually forward this to Ebay and let them have at this schmuck

I've had this happen before and you will need to immediatly give to them your bank account numbers and social security numbers. I did, and ebay took all my money, and now I haven't ruined my credit. I'm serious, do not hesitate to give them what they need.

So, I clicked on the link provided in this e-mail, and it took me to what appeared to be an e-bay webpage. On this page, they asked for my DOB, address, and phone number, and stated they would promptly e-mail me back with further information.

I got the e-mail back from them asking for, as LUconn suggested, my SSN, bank account number, and said everything would be taken care of now. So, I gave it to them.

Didn’t you lose a lot of money from that other investment? The one from the email?

You know what Toby? When the son of the deposed king of Nigeria emails you directly -- asking you for help – you help. His father ran the freaking country, ok?

ebay is a ripoff waiting to happen. you can't trust anyone on there. I bought a gameboy game on there last summer from a guy with 99.9% approval rating and over 3000 feedback and never got my game. sent him sevevral messages asking where my game was and never heard back from him. filed a complain with ebay and still never heard anything and I now have no game. luckily it only cost 14 dollars, but then I was only making $6 hour - although full time - so I basically worked 2 1/3 hours for free.

That's why you pay with Paypal and charge the guy back. You lose nothing.

I've bought AND sold on Ebay, and only ever had one problem. Guy never paid me, and I never sent him what he bought. It was pretty simple.

I personally don\'t recommend anyone using PayPal. It gets hacked into on a regular basis. As a matter of fact, my son had his credit card number stolen from using PayPal. I wouldn\'t recommend anyone using it, PayPal is too unsecure.

I use PayPal, but I learned the hard way just how careful you have to be when selecting which account to pay from. Pick the wrong one and you'll end up with hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees from your bank.
