The Great FlameFans Christmas Song Tournament

alright, I'm super bored at work here so I'm setting up a tournament of Christmas songs. Each song will be seeded 1-16 and it will be single elimination. Each round will last 24 hours so everybody can participate. I can't close the voting because I'm not a mod in this forum so I'll just check it after 24 hours. If your favorite song is not in the top 16, you can whine to me, but I chose them based on what I've observed online to be the top songs minus ones that are especially lame and adding in some other ones as darkhorses
Here's the list in no particular order. I will be posting the voting threads in like a half hour or so and the seedings will be known at that point.
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
Winter Wonderland
Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
A Holly Jolly Christmas
O Holy Night
Jingle Bell Rock
Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane)
(There's No Place Like) Home For The Holidays
Happy Christmas (War Is Over)
Last Chirstmas
O Come All Ye Faithful
Little Drummer Boy
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town
White Christmas
If this goes well we can do more tournaments of topics that don't matter, in the future.

Does this emoticon convey my seriousness enough?

this is just a trial run to see if this will work on this board. If successful, we can tournamentize more important topics like best 90s band.

That's not enough time for me to start an office pool!

I'm calling for Little Drummer Boy to upset O Holy Night in the sweet 16.

Rudolph the red nosed reindeer is the early 5-1 odds on favorite.

Good idea....and a totally random topic which makes for a great message board.

How's this going to work? Are you having a selection show?
Posted: November 28th, 2007, 3:34 pm
by LUconn
no, I was the selection show at my desk. ("chestnuts roasting on an open" fire was ticked. I just didn't like what it brought to the table.) The participants are set. Perhaps in the future I'll open up a thread to get nominations first

When's the bracket going to be revealed.

The matchups are out and they're open for 24 hours. Most of the seedings are somewhat random as I found it difficult to rank 16 Christmas songs seriously. I'm a little upset about the George Michael vs John Lennon game. Those are the 2 most modern ones and I didn't really want them to be against eachother in the 1st round but I wasn't paying attention. Oh well.

I've got White Christmas taking the whole thing.
Did you see the look on Joy to the World's face when it didn't make it into the field. Classic stuff.

Dude, what about
Silent Night
Deck the Halls
Hark the Herald Angels Sing
God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen
Christmas (Baby Please Come Home) by U2
Carol of the Bells (Home Alone, anyone?)
Do You Hear What I Hear
Feliz Navidad
Joy to the World
The First Noel
O Little Town of Bethlehem
We Three Kings
What CHild is This
It Came Upon a Midnight Clear
and
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer?
This could've been a 32-team tourney...

I was going to do 32 at first but I didn't want to start 16 threads. 8 threads has pretty much dropped a huge bomb on this forum as it is. Maybe next time we do something like this we can do like 1 round over 2 or 3 days.

That makes complete sense, especially if CROAOF went 8-3, didn't meet the 7 D1 wins criteria and won its conference title.
