Can you buy just replacement USB cords for digital cameras? Mine has apparently went bad and neither one of my computers has a built in chip reader.

I recommend buying a USB card reader anyway. You don't eat up battery power and they're relatively cheap. It also allows you to use your memory card as a USB flash drive.

That was my other option if I couldn't get a cord cheap. I used to have a multiple card reader but gave it to someone.

I think the card reader is a better deal anyway; I have a USB cable for my camera but never use it anymore (unless I want to charge my phone via USB). I've also used the card reader regularly to transfer files between home and work.

Get the card reader.

But yes, the cable that connects your camera is most likely just a standard USB cable. Unfortunately, there are five types of standard USB plugs.

Left to Right: Micro USB, Mini USB, USB Type B, USB Type A female, USB Type A male.

Most camera cables that I've seen are Mini USB on one end and USB Type A male on the other, but that picture should help you identify which you need if you decided to go that route.

I bought a cord from Best Buy that will adapt to any type of USB port. I've got the camera plugged in, but for some reason, I still can't get the pictures off the camera.

Because I wanted to use it for multiple things.

Ended up the cord was screwed up. It was a display item that had been messed up.
