Can we talk about firearms on a public forum? Hmmmm

We'll see...I've just started to get interested in them simply b/c I live by myself and would like to at least have the piece of mind knowing I have some protection in the house.

Do we have any enthusiasts?
Anyone with a concealed weapons license? (I'm looking into trying to get one here soon)
What type of guns do you own?

I almost started this very same thread today. Scary.

I do own several firearms, however only my 9mm handgun currently resides here in Lynchburg. There's no point in having the rest of them here, so they're stowed safely with my father's arsenal in NC. There I have a 6mm Remington rifle, a 20 gauge Remington shotgun, a Smith & Wesson .44 Mag and a Chipmunk .22 children's rifle. My dad is a collector and has a lot of guns. I'd probably only own a handgun, if not for him being so generous.

I do not have a concealed carry permit...yet. However, about ten of the guys I work with all took the classes and tests (with their wives and girlfriends, no less). They all have permits now and carry wherever the law allows for them to. They take it very seriously and are model citizens in regard to their permit. I have several additional friends (from graphic designers to attorneys) who have done the same. My wife and I both intend to obtain permits at some point in the near future.

I'm curious to see the comments from the rest of FlameFans, especially in regard to carrying on campus (which is disallowed by LUPD currently) and concealed carry permits.

Great minds ....I didnt know if I was going to get scolded or not by you scorchy!

I bought a VERY cheap 380 hand gun today...similar to a 9mm...I got it simply to have in the house until Christmas time until I can afford a Glock 40 which seems to be one of the best out. A Doctor friend of mine carries a Glock 40 with a pressure sensing laser...it's unreal

I plan on taking the class here very soon...let me know scorchy and maybe we'll do it at the same time...it takes 4 hours and I hear theres not much to it.

Im an avid hunter so all my guns are stored in NJ. However, i want to get a handgun and conceal permit. If we can get a bunch of FF to do it together lets do it. At home i have a 10 gauge shotgun, two 12 gauge shotgun ( one auto, one pump ), 4-5 different rifles, and a .22. Im probably forgetting something......

I was an FFL for several years back in the day.
Sold all of my guns (except 1) when my first was born.
I still enjoy combat pistol shooting and trap/skeet.
I am all for you guys carrying, just first throughly train in all aspects of using a pistol for self defense and then practice.
Do all of this before buckling up!
Oh and 1 4 hour course is not enough to carry.....

I'm up for it. Although I heard it was a bit more involved than that. I don't mind if it takes some effort. In fact, I'd feel better about it if it did.

My 9mm is a S&W my dad gave to me. I'd eventually like to get something chambered in .40S&W that fits my hand a little more comfortably than the S&W. Might be a Glock, might be something else. Not sure yet.

I'm with you...I plan on going to the range and going through 1000's of rounds before I feel comfortable enough to carry...although speaking to everyone at Ace, Pawn shops etc they said it was one class but maybe they're wrong...I really dont care what it is, I'll go through it...see what your co-workers say

Pistol shooting is a blast - practice is actually fun.
Ask and see if any local ranges have pistol shoots , bowling pins, etc.
Really fun, great practice, and more "real world" than standing on a firing line at a range.

I dont think we even have a shooting range...I believe someone told me Roanoke? Maybe someone else will know

That's the biggest problem I've heard from the guys at work. There aren't any local ranges in Lynchburg. (That they're aware of, anyway.) They drive out to a gun club somewhere in Roanoke for most of their target practice. Otherwise they just have to depend on people with enough property to allow them to shoot.

Business opportunity, anyone?

Hmm, you could probably make a killing on that.

Hah...killing...I get it 8)

If you do find any info on the courses...post it here. I would be interested in hearing. I have been shotgun owner for many years, but have always considered getting a pistol of some sort.

I like LUPD's idea for not having one on campus for security reasons......

however, I want to carry my weapon in my car when coming to campus especially....you would agree if you ever had to leave some of those intramural basketball games

I like guns, but I honestly know nothing about them. I looked into the classes on concealed weapons a while back for when I eventually do get one, but it seemed like a lot of hours. I don't remember specifically.

I desperately want a 'backpack shotgun'. Oddly, the wife (grew up with guns) doesn't want any kind of firearm in the house.

Maybe you could arrange a "break in" one night to help sway her opinion?
