I mean sure...it would cross all of our minds to be like...."Hmmmm she's cute and she's here to see my show...I wonder if she'd like to meet me" But who actually would do that!!!!!

David Copperfield is under the FBI microscope, and now TMZ may know why.

Last week, the FBI raided Copperfield's Las Vegas warehouse and seized digital camera equipment and a hard drive to a computer -- this, after a Seattle woman accused Copperfield of sexually assaulting her in the Bahamas.

Sources now tell TMZ Copperfield designed part of his show around "a system for picking up women." During his show, David goes into the audience and chooses women to come on stage. We're told that if David likes a girl, he'll use code words with assistants like "mama" and "secrecy." The assistants mark the women on a map of the inside of the Hollywood Theater at MGM Grand. After the show, the women are brought backstage -- and that's where the profiling begins.

The women are told that David may use them in his show when he comes to their hometown. They are then photographed with a digital camera, asked questions like, "What is your favorite men's cologne?" and "Where do you like to vacation?" We're told one of those vacation spots mentioned by staff is the Bahamas, where the accuser claims she was assaulted. Copperfield owns a cluster of islands in the Bahamas -- which he bought for $50 million.

This may explain the FBI's interest in David's camera system and hard drive. If the accuser is a woman who was brought on stage, the FBI would be interested in a possible M.O.

Copperfield's attorney re-issued his earlier statement in response to this story: "It is important these allegations be put into perspective. An unidentified woman has made serious allegations against David Copperfield. Although authorities have not revealed her identity to us, we know these allegations are false because David Copperfield has never forced himself on anyone."

Yeah this stuff is pretty creepy. My parents took me to see him in Raleigh when I was kid. Kinda creepy to think about it now.

While its a strange way to go about getting dates, as long as he doesn't assault them, not sure anything he did is illegal.

Isn't he still married to Claudia Schiffer?

The problem is that he's being accused of rape. That being the case, this whole system of his becomes much more interesting.

, Copperfield and two of his female assistants were robbed at gunpoint after a performance in West Palm Beach, Florida. His assistants gave the robbers their money, passports, and a cell phone. However, according to his police statement, Copperfield did not hand over anything. (He later claimed to have used sleight-of-hand to hide his possessions.

According to the friend, Copperfield invited the 21-year-old beauty to a "lavish party" at his remote compound in the Bahamas. But when she got there, on July 27, she discovered "there was no party - and no other guests," according The Enquirer source.

"She got nervous and wanted to go home right away, but David convinced her to stay, saying she could leave the next day if she really wanted to," the friend claims.

That night, Copperfield forced himself on the woman, holding her arms "down on the bed, leaving her with terrible bruises," the friend charges.

"She told me she fought back," the friend says. "But she said that just seemed to turn him on more."

"After Copperfield had finished with her and left to clean off, the young woman had the presence of mind to use her cell phone to take photos of the crime scene," according to the tab. "In order to preserve physical evidence, she says she didn't shower. The next day, she went back home to Seattle, where her mother met her at the airport."

"They drove straight to the Harborview Medical Center, where medical personnel performed a 'rape kit' on her," the friend told The Enquirer.

Agents from Seattle's FBI office later coordinated a sting operation with the woman - encouraging her to e-mail the magician and arranging a meeting in Vegas, according to the friend.
