The new season, according to Wikipedia, will begin airing in November on Discovery.

I just read what wikipedia had to say about the show and I can't say that I really have much interest in watching anymore. It seems Bear and the producers intentionally deceived viewers on multiple occasions, and whats more, they frequently gave bad survival advice. I realize some of you may be familiar with many of theses accusations from a couple months ago, but there is a good bit of new information now about the show on wikipedia.

You can have whatever opinion you want, but believe everything you read on wikipedia is pretty silly.

The references are all cited and I have read most of this on other news sites as well. Wikipedia just makes it easier by putting it all in one location. You don't have to believe it, but I don't see why this stuff wouldn't be true. I don't know if you read the whole article, but it sounds to me like this show was less about educating viewers and more about sensationalism. Come on, we all know eating raw fish and meat isn't healthy, nor is drinking your own urine.

Nothing new there. I know Bear is tough, I don't doubt that. What I do doubt is his ability to tell the truth.

Again, i posted in a thread earlier we all know the media exaggerates and bear said himself some of the things weren't true. Do to contract stuff, im sure Discovery didn't want a Steve Irwin situation. They may have pulled him out occasionaly, but to say that he gave bad survival advice is pretty dumb as is saying the show isn't about educating viewers. This is a "survival" show, its not about " hey anybody wanna go camping and eat raw fish" ....its about what you would do in an extreme situation. If you have watched the show and still have those opinions....your just out to lunch then i guess.....

I also read the new season will have a lot more behind the scenes stuff, so we get a clear picture of what the crew does day to day (Episodes will now be 2 hours long).

Okay here you go...Interview with Polar Skier on Bear's Cold Water survival...
http://www.mounteverest.net/news.php?id=16305

Some of Bear's stunts are educational...most are hyperbole.

I don't have a problem with Discovery taking some precautions for his safety...but staying in a hotel and having him eat steak and bringing in a trained horse that was supposedly wild...come on.

I guess with the longer episodes they can show his trips to and from the Hilton.

I basically take the show as, Bear is never in any danger and can at anypoint get some gatorade from his crew that's with him. But he does things that one might need to do and shows you some different tips. I don't think anybody who truely was just trying to survive would jump into a frozen lake just to show us what to do.

My point was, the frozen lake wasn't even a realistic situation.

I read that article you posted and it may make some valid points (I don't know about survival techs. to say otherwise) but really read this part:
Bear reportedly left SAS 21 TA following a parachute accident. We don't know what happened back then, but we do know that after his 1998 Everest summit, Bear was airlifted from BC with frostbite to his feet. He managed to get these in spite of being in a commercial expedition climbing on supplementary oxygen, and in fairly good weather.

Dramatically increasing since the arrival of (commercially led) inexperienced climbers on Everest; frostbite in the "old times" usually only happened to people climbing on no (or bad) oxygen, or in jet-wind type storms (compare to independent Karakoram climbers this season).
The tone of that just screams "hater".

Did you like Fear Factor? I hated that show.

I don't think Survivorman is any tougher. His show was/is more authentic--that's all. His show is actually kind of boring. Just based on looks, Bear appears to be in better physical condition. Les is a tad paunchy.

Let me start with this:

Michael Scott: Wikipedia is the best thing ever. Anyone in the world can write anything they want about any subject, so you know you are getting the best possible information.

Let me also say, it hurt me when the news broke about him staying in a few hotels...at that point I started to lean towards Survivorman a little bit more...but I'm sure Bear will win me over again here in Nov :D I really do enjoy this show and all survivoral shows for that matter

I watched one of the old shows last night to see what changes they had made since re-airing. The statement the issue at the beginning of the show pretty much allows them to do what they want, including putting fish on his hook, giving him tame rabbits to catch etc...as well as staying in hotels. I'm sure it will still be an entertaining show...just more of a 'Fear Factor' than anythinge else. I know in one of the upcoming shows he eats part of a goats reproductive area. Sounds real entertaining.
