A Sea Of Red

The McCain thread got me to thinking a little more about the 2008 Presidential Campaigns that seem to be getting in motion. I'm curious about who you folks think will be the nominees and who you think SHOULD be the nominees.

Clearly McCain & Hillary seem to be the prohibitive favorites. But as we've seen over the years that doesn't necessarily insure success once things getting rolling in Iowa & New Hampshire.

I always liked Bill Frist- he sorta comes off as a Repub version of Gore though, somewhat wooden. I really don't know a lot of him, but he leans to the right of most issues.

I think the ONE democrat I would vote for would be Mark Warner, former gov of VA.

I'd LOVE to see Condi Rice run. She'd the the first African American AND the first woman. She'd be a Republican knocking down both stereotypes. I'd personally love that.

I wouldn't be completely disappointed if Warner won the Democratic primary. I think he'll have a hard time beating Clinton but who knows... she may self destruct before the end of the primary. She gets angry too easily. That will turn some people off.

I would also enjoy Gov/Senator Allen. He seems to have a pretty common sense approach to things. He'd be a good choice if he ever generates enough steam.

I'm not a huge fan of McCain. I don't know where he stands on his social issues and I haven't seen him articulate himself very well. He's attached himself to the financial campaign reforms but all that ended up doing was stripping people of their rights and creating new monsters called "527's". Now we have an alphabet soup of Political Action Committees. Moveon.org, Friends of "____", etc. For something he championed for so long it doesn't seem to be worth the big deal. in his favor, he will be good on the war and he has had all of our respect for what he went through in Vietnam. He'd also probably tighten up spending.

Someone any Republican should worry about is a man by the name of Barak Obamma. He's a dynomite candidate. He's going to be a huge thorn in the side of Republican contenders after 2008.

Just my initial thoughts.

You hit it on the nose on Obama. He was VERY impressive speaking at the last Democratic Convention. Articlulates himself almost TOO well--and that is what scares me. Even at 45, he possesses the young, dynamic look of a certain young contender from 1960.

Barak is well spoken, but heck Ted Kennedy cant even remeber his name. He has said some out there stuff that will make it very hard for him nationally.
On the Republican side, I am still a fan of RuDY RUDY RUDY. Several practical reasons: EVERYONE knows him and LIKES/Respects him after 9/11. His personal baggae, ie Younger girlfriend and Lesbian wife have already been out there and people know about it. He also puts New York in play for the Republicans. He will win the "Upstate" votes and really put pressure on the City votes. Same for Jersey and Connecticut. If he chose a "southern" running mate or Condi, he would win in Reaganeque style. Everyone says his problem is the Republican primary and I don't think so. Sure Jerry and the boys say they are against him, but that dog aint gonna hunt with alot of THEIR constituancy, especially now w/ the supreme court make up.
If he decides to run, he will win hands down.

your dead on about Rice, I think she's 1 term away though, I dont think she could stack up right now but in 4 years I think she'll be a legit contender....as far as the Dem's go, Obama is so well spoken (his keynote proved that) and he's brilliant he could be our first black president....I made the statement that JC Watts would be our first black president about 10 years ago although I think the stress of the politics finally set in.....I just dont think Hillary is going to fair well, Kerry's biggest problem was he was to far left for some of these Dem's yet Hillary makes Kerry look like the Pope

Frankly, I'm just not interested in 2008. It's a wash as far as I'm concerned.

Anyways, George Allen is probably the best candidate out there, and one of the only true conservatives left.

I'd like to see Sen. George Allen run. He is a conservative Republican who I think would actually be able to win the White House even against former VA Gov. Warner. I saw a part of the Sen. John McCain interview on Meet the Press, and to me, he just came across as being too much of a flip flopper, just as Kerry was portrayed. I think if he were to win the nomination, the Democrats would find him to be easy prey.
