Fresh off our monster roadie, I've got travel on my brain. I'm curious about your favorite travel sites. We all know about Expedia, Orbitz, Priceline & Travelocity. But here are some my personal favorites:

Easily my favorite travel spot on the web. Its a terrific resource that I use on EVERY trip whether for business or pleasure.

Much of the resources of the book series are available online. Its much better for help outside the Continental US.

Basically its Fodor's take two. But I refer to both.

I have a few more quirky sites to share but I am curious about some of your finds.

yeah- the kind that mentions that little fact two days after you book a cruise. Just like my buddy that told me: "I could have got you 15% off that CD player" the day after I paid $350 for it at Circuit City.

I like Hotwire.com. I use it every week when I am working in Richmond for booking my hotel. I find tremendously cheap deals. We use it for trips to Donwtown Philly and other stuff too.

Scar ... Give Priceline a try. Competition from Hotwire forced them into changing some of their business principles. I used to use Hotwire but now I'm finding better rates on Priceline.

very true, as of just a year ago you had to name your price yet now it's pretty much like other sites....One time I was in LA and I offered a really cheap price (for the area) something like $75 for a 3 or 4 star place and next thing I know Hilton takes it....I guess the their way of thinking is it's better to have someone then no one

Booking a Flight the Frugal Way
By MATT GROSS

Image

It used to be so simple. You wanted to go to Paris, so you called a travel agency, gave them your dates and budget, and with any luck, you soon had in your hands a real paper ticket with a real dollar value. Even in the early days of the Internet, it was easier. You went to one of the few booking sites — Travelocity or Expedia, most likely — searched for your route, paid with a credit card and that was it. Maybe you even got a paper ticket in the mail. Those were the days!

Today, however, booking a flight is a total mess. Travelocity and Expedia have been joined by Bing and Orbitz and Dohop and Vayama and CheapTickets and CheapOair and Kayak and SideStep and Mobissimo and and and … I could go on and list every single Web site out there, but I won’t. There are just too many. Instead, I’ll lead you through the steps I make when I’m booking a flight myself.

Who do you guys use for your travel? Since Continental is my preferred carrier, I tend to start there and then hit Travelocity/Expedia/Kayak and Southwest since the latter tends to not show up on most of the other sites. This story adds some new ones for me.

Anybody else remember the days of calling a travel agent? That seems like a generation ago to me.
