It's called a "Favicon".
Thank you. I just got tired of the default phpBB icon.

Nope. Make a 16 pixel by 16 pixel image in Photoshop. Save it as a 16-color gif file and rename it "favicon.ico". Upload it to your webserver, and then add this information into the HEAD section of your HTML page:
Code: Select all<link rel="icon" href="path/to/file/favicon.ico" />

If you previously created a bookmark for the site in Firefox, the icon is cached. It's a pain in the rear to get Firefox to uncache it. (It involves manually editing a preference file.) I don't know why it's like that.
IE, on the other hand, doesn't show the icon at all
until you bookmark it.
Safari handles business properly.
