So far the announced entertainment for August 25th is "LA Symphony" and "Run Kid Run". I'm familiar with LA Symphony, though I'm surprised to hear they're still around. I know nothing about Run Kid Run.

While I'm talking about the block party, let's just go ahead and talk about concerts for the 07/08 school year, too:
Mercy Me, Audio Adrenaline, Phil Whickham, Cool Hand Luke, Bernard, KJ-52, Family Force Five, Toby Mac, Jason Morant, Building 429, Thousand Foot Krutch, Jacob Zachary, and Sanctus Real.

I'm a big fan of Run Kid Run. They normally put on a real good show.

Does Cool Hand Luke still play with their backs to the crowd?

Forgive my ignorance, but I thought Audio Adrenaline retired and went their own separate ways a la dcTalk.

When they came here last year they said it was a farewell tour. I guess not.

I'm afraid they are including concerts that took place in 07

KJ-52 is the worst thing that ever happened to music. I will boycott his concert.

haha im sorry, he is ignorant and makes stupid comments not only in his music but at his concerts and stuff and I just very strongly dislike the man. Its a lot deeper than that, but im trying to be positive for a day and you arent helping!

Run Kid Run is good...but it seems to me they are putting less and less money into booking artists for the block party....And most of those artists on that list for upcoming concerts have been here numerous times, it be nice to get some new artists

I've never been to one of his concerts, but I have several of his CD's.
You ever heard of LeCrae?

ummm...well not in the traditional sense, but there are more christian artists out there....Run Kid Run is one of the smaller bands on tooth and nail records, why not for the block party go for someone a bit bigger on the label why do they need to stick within the traditional CCM market?? Oh yeah I forgot they are recruiting the parents on CFAW more so then the kids....

I don't know about why they need to, but I do know we won't be getting any concerts from people that aren't in regular rotation on 90.9. Make of it what you will, but that's just how it is.

Well Mercy Me and Audio A are far from the regular rotation at the light...I am actually the music director there now which is why it bothers me they just recycle the same artists when there are so many others that are much bigger and seriously wouldn't cost that much more.
I could go on, but there are just things that are better left unsaid as far as my opinions on this goes, I have very strong opinions on music in general and could probably go on for days about this very topic (bands on campus) and how there needs to be more of a variety and that includes rap even though I hate it personally....There are a few of us at the station that hope to help change that, but its near impossible to do anything on campus unless its done with student life....so maybe we will try hosting some off campus concerts....I don't know...there were a lot of good ideas thrown out towards the end of the semester, hopefully some of the ideas will come to fruition

I wish you would go on about it more. I have strong musical opinions as well and I'd love to hear yours. I'd also like to see Student Life collaborating with 90.9 on musical guests since, you know, you guys are the student radio station. Just seems logical to me.
Who would you like to see here? Come on. Throw us a bone.

Seems there are all kinds of bands that have ccm roots or are of the "Christians who are in a band" variety:
The Fray
Seventh Day Slumber
Jonah33
Red
Flyleaf
Fireflight
Pillar
Disciple
Day of Fire
Skillet
If the paradigm is that they must stay within the CCM construct, What about all those Summer Musical Festivals LU is "sponsoring", i.e. Creation, Purple Door, Sonrise, etc. Don't those usually showcase a broad cross section of musical acts with some more well-known faith-based artists along with the up and comers?
Also, what about Student Life/The Light calling up the AR & Marketing Directors from the many record labels that are either solely Faith-based or the mainstream labels that have started Faith-based labels in order to set-up a pipeline to establish a Fall, Winter and Spring concert series with these labels funneling their established talent as well as breaking artists to a place with 11,000 students with cash to burn? (except for SJ

that is a good list and good ideas...all things we have actually talked about (and by we I mean the 2 other guys at the station I have talked to about this) once again the problem is working with student life. Its much harder then many would think.
Scrocho I will give a more lengthy response to your statement tomorrow when I have more time to really talk it out without bashing on anybody to harshly

Two "bigger" ones that people seem to love (one bigger than the other) are Switchfoot and Anberlin. Anberlin sucks live but hey, it's a name.

switchfoot came 3 years ago. So, it's been done at least.

Ok, didn't know that.
It seems like with the way they've been recycling bands in the year and a half I've been here, that it'd be time to try and get them in here again.
