since JCManson asked:
1. go to a park- just walk around or hang out (doesn't cost much, if anything)
2. comedy show (club, cabaret, theater, etc)
3. window shopping
4. bike ride
5. watch a movie at home (not the Nick at Night special, either: BIG PEOPLE show)
I realize there is a strong physical fitness theme here, low impact is good for me.

Play putt-putt and go to the batting cage, if your wife likes this. Mine does! So that's all that I care about.

Window shopping always turns in to her forcing me to buy her something that we can't really afford.

don't consider going to the movies a date night either....she probalby just wants to "talk" with you....
i surprised her with date night...
my rents came over to the house to watch the kids,
we went and grab a burger at fuddruckers
went go karting (and we basically spun each other out the entire time, and then got our gokarting licesnses revoked together...really)
went to a diner and had some pie...
then went home and i had some pie....

If she just wants to talk-Starbucks is good...until a creepy guy comes in and sits at a table next to you and then listens to every word of your conversation. Thats the cue to get up and leave, and then perhaps just a drive down the highway works.

I like it when my hubby sends my kids to the in-laws and we get the house to ourselves!

I need to grab a picnic basket and take my wife up to the gazebo up by the logo one night. Heck, that would be an awesome spot to watch the fireworks from this Saturday night (or whenever LibertyFest or whatever it is called is). hmmmmmm.
