A Sea Of Red

I am in Boston this week for a convention. I am at the Sharaton by the Convention center. Where to go? The Sox are not in town so that stinks, we are having a band come in on Thursday (last time was Cheryl Crow) I will be going to the PALM tonite for dinner. Where else/what else is there to do at night? So far my nights are going to consist of hitting the cigar bar down the street. Can a brother get some help? SCAR what escort service did you use up here?

There's a computer museum. It was kinda lame, but I'd imagine with computers being much cooler now, the museum could be cooler. Other than historical stuff, I don't know of many other options. There's Paul Ravere's house. Also, you have got to go to a Legal Seafood's. Everything there is good. I especially like the chowder.

oh man i hated boston....i thought it was going to be great.....other than good seafood the place is a bore....oh and listening to everyone talk like retahhhds about drove me insane

it really is not a very good city. And hopefully you're saved if you have to drive around. Worst drivers ever.

I love Boston! Of course, all 3 of my experiences there have involved running a little marathon you may have heard of...

I will say that the historical walking tour of downtown is pretty good, as long as it isn't too hot. Follow the red brick line around town and see the Old North Church, Paul Revere's house, the USS Constitution, and a bunch of other stuff. If you are interested in night-life, I'm the wrong, boring person to ask.

I loved Boston in the summer, but hated it in the winter.

Fannuel (spelling is WAY off) Hall and that area is a nice place to stop. There's also a Hard Rock Cafe near the South Bay (I think) stop if you want to check that out.

Take a drive to a Rhode Island beach, if you have the time. Best beach's I've ever seen (other than mexico)

Go to the Quincy Market (food court) for dinner. You can take the T-rail (subway) downtown to get there.

A short distance to your west is Concord (homes of Emerson, Thoreau, Hawthorne, Altcotts & Sleep Hollow where they are all buried) and Walden Pond, which has a nice beach area in the summer and where Thoreau spent 2 years, 2 months, & 2 days.

Boston Commons (park) is a nice place to hang out. That was the setting for several scenes from the movie Good Will Hunting.

HA! The outside of "Cheers" is identical to the one in the show, but don't go in unless you want to have everything ruined!

An entertaining way to get a quick "touristy" overview of Boston is to go on the "Ducks"; (amphibous military surplus vehicles). They're driven/piloted by guides who each have a charactor they portray as they basically do a comedy routine while explaining the various places you pass. I enjoyed it. We got a special group rate but I think for an individual adult it's like 25 bucks. I think they also have packages which include a ticket to other attractions or shows like Blue Man Group.

The shore towns of Newport and and Block Island are pretty cool. Newport has a fairly decent Jazz festival every summer and it also has mansions on the breakers. Cape Cod is nice also.

Great places to go sailing, if you're into that sort of thing.

Samuel Adams Brew House on Boylston St. serves great beer battered fish and chips. Check'em out.

Harvard Square over in Cambridge is a pretty cool place to visit. Cafes, bookshops ect. Also, there's this little German place named Wursthaus. If you like that kind of food, you'll definetly like it.

Just for fun, walk over to the seminary doning a big bright LU shirt. Just a heads up--there aren't very many heterosexual students over there.

Boston College over in Chestnut Hill is a really cool campus with many gothic buildings. It's breathtaking in the fall. Personally, BC is one of my favorite college campus's in the country. The Jesuit-Christian philosophy is surprisingly alive there among many of it's faculty members, large libraries, and many of the students as well.

As far as food goes, you can't go wrong with anything lobster or chowder related. The harbor area has several decent places to eat. The Dry Dock Café and The Chart House are two of my favorites on the harbor.

I agree with Cider here. Certainly, Concord, the Commons, and the Quincey Market are well worth seeing.

SInce the vice director of IT is also one who bears my name, guess who got the Escalade Limo ride from the airport to thehotel. And guess who got the 800sq' suite???? Then they moved me to the handicapped room today where Ic an stand on my bed and just about touch each wall, and my name sake didn't even get the SUITE. We had a good laugh.
Went to Flemmings last nite. SOoooooooooooooooooo much better thanthe one in Richmond. Went to SlapJacks tonite. Not a great town if you can t eat seafood. I tell everyone it is for religious reasons, and they all think I am Mr Piety (And since I am allergic and don't want to meeet my maker and Jerry you could call it religious)
The best news is that the and1 guys are intown at this hotel. I paid the conceirge to get me their schedule tomorrow so I can see them play/run/practice. Or I'll do the blue man group
