You are just getting out for summer break in Mid-June? Are you guys on a year-round schedule?

I've been out since June 1st.


Anyhow, IMO there is no better scene in a movie with the above song than "Dazed and Confused".

Another great Austin movie. Nice reset.

Virginia doesn't start schools until after Labor Day...something called the "Kings Dominion" Law...so all the tourist destinations can keep their labor force through Labor Day. Lynchburg just finished today, too.

Michigan is the same way as well, they don't start till after Labor Day. I work at a private school so we start a week before public schools and usually get out at least a week before they do. (we got out nearly two weeks earlier this year) Next year we will be out May 31st.

Someone once said that the 3 best parts of teaching are "June, July, & August."

I count FIVE...at least for us college folks.

5 - 12 = 7. We profs are working 7 months out of the year and are paid full time. Oh, the value of an education!
(fumble, my relatives still think being a professor is only a part-time job, since we only teach 12-15 hours a week).

12-15 hours...plus class prep...plus mentoring students during our office hours (since we no longer serve as advisors)...then grading assignments. Takes me at least until 130-2 PM most days.

Plus committee assignents, faculty meetings, & convo. Still, it beats working in a factory or teaching high school.

I am so glad called you all to be teachers. I did it for two years, PE teacher at a Christian school, boys and girls grades 1 thru 12. I remember my 7th grade class, 70 plus boys. Yipes!!

Education is a fickle mistress, though. Without that handy VA certification, even some seasoned profs would get the cold shoulder from the Public High School HR department, until they get that magic piece of paper (state certification)...ah, the times we live in...

Exactly correct, Peter. K-12 teachers all need certification, but there is no such certification for professors. We are supposed to be "experts" in our discipline, but many of my colleagues have never taken an education or methods course in their life.

Kind of like our Fiat currency system.

NC just moved to that a year or two ago except for schools that missed "x" amount of days due to inclement weather over the past "x" amount of years. My county was exempt so we've been out since before Memorial Day.

we start the week before Labor Day, but usually have enough snow days that the kids go WELL into June.

usually the last or 2nd to last week (last year I believe our kids were out on the 22nd)

this year was the earliest release for MANY years, as they got out Wednesday the 13th

now about daycare (Every working parent's nightmare)
