A Sea Of Red

Does anybody else use this site. Besides Scorch of course. Man, it is really good. My favorite feature is the maps. I've just been seaching around places that I know for the better part of the day now, to see what pictures have been taken there. Although, I can't seem to get mine to show up. I've only uploaded 4 but I can't find them on the map. Most of Lynchburg's pictures seem to be mainly just 2 people.

I was frustrated by the rigid nature of Flickr when it first started up a few years ago, but I like the additional features that keep popping up.

The format does take a little bit to get used to. I'm so used to basic HTML sites in uploading pictures that this seemed a little weird at first. But now it just feels way better. Yahoo is getting rid of their photo service, and since they own flickr, a lot of those folks will probably migrate over.

Unless you have a GPS unit attached to your camera, and your camera supports adding the GPS data to the EXIF info in your pictures, you won't see your pictures automatically placed on the map. You have to place them yourself. It's in the Organize section of Flickr.

Flickr is my favorite site on the Internet. There are so many useful features. My favorites:

1. Print photos to Target: This is how my wife and I order almost all of our prints now.
2. Photo tagging: Being able to search my pictures by keyword is huge.
3. Camera Model search: If a user has their EXIF data publicly visible, you can click on a camera model and see other pictures taken by that model of camera. When you're in the market for one this is one of the best tools for research because you can actually see the quality of the pictures, which is what is most important in the end.
4. RSS feeds for everything: You can syndicate almost anything on Flickr. Awesome.
5. The fact that it's social: I've been able to learn from, talk to and meet other photographers through Flickr. There's a Central Virginia group, in fact, where you can see a lot of neat pictures from around the 'burg.
6. Fifty gazllion ways to upload photos: Upload from the site, from applications, by email, from your phone, etc. Options are good.
7. Notes: I love being able to add notes to pictures ON the pictures. In some cases, it makes the difference between a photo being useful or not.

I have never tried Flikr...but have heard know many folks that do. I love Picassa through Google. IT is so easy to upload, put pics on the internet, download to Walmart or wherever for prints. It does take a little bit of playing around, but pretty user friendly.

I've placed them in the right spot and made them public and scrolled through all available pictures in the area but they still dont show. Maybe it just takes some time.
