Anyone watching this on NBC? I loved SNL then and love watching the reruns and this is an NBC special on the entire decade.

I just heard about this on my way home tonight and wish i had been watching it....was it good?

It's still on. Seeing some of those old skits has been great. Seeing the actors talk about them and the behind the scenes stuff has been even better.

Some of it was better than other parts. It wasn't as great as they were making it out IMHO .. particularly the Late '90s wasn't all that great.

The late 80's and early 90's were, in my opinion, the best it's ever been.

I didn't realize they fired everyone after 94. I would've loved to see Sandler and Ferrell on the same sketch. I will pay a ton of money to watch a movie with both of them.

I think it's much better this year than it has been in the last few, thanks to Tina Fey being gone.

I preferred the days of Roseanne Rosannadanna, the REAL Belushi, Eddie Murphy as Gumby, Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood, Martin Short as Ed Grimley, Billy Crystal's "You look mahvalous", "I hate it when that happens" and Mr. Bill.

I loved the early 90's....late 90's were ok...i haven't watched one this year, so i can't really say...but the 2000's has been terrible from what i can tell.....

Tina Fey is probably the most unfunny person ever to make a name out of themselves from SNL

Back int he '70s & '80s, SNL was an event that you planne dyour weekend around. It hasn't been that way in a long time. Its not even been the funniest sketch comedy show on Saturday nights for over a decade.

are you saying Mad TV is funnier?? because in all the times i have seen Mad TV i think i have last maybe twice.....

Actually I do. When Comedy Central used to be able to play SNL they'd have marathons and I'd sit in front of the tv for hours on end watching SNL reruns. I loved it.

They had the best of this season on last night. I fell asleep around 12:30 but some of it wasn't bad.

Early 90's was the best--though I admit I have no idea on the stuff medic is talking about. It has been terrible for about 6-7 years running, but this season has been better. I hope it continues to get better.

It's funny because one of the things they talked about on the show was that people always talk about how it used to be good and now it's not. Then when they turn over the cast, everyone hates the new people. They also talked about how they went through a transition in the 90's where they stopped writing jokes for the baby boomers and started writing them for the boomers' kids. That explains things for a few of you.

IMHO, Tina Fey leaving had nothing to do with SNL being more funny. I think 30 Rock is hilarious, and it's her show. In fact, I think she's a pretty funny lady. She's certainly more funny than Al Franken. There are a lot of variables that go into that show, so it's going to be hit or miss not only from sketch to sketch, but from episode to episode and season to season. If you enjoy comedy, you just stick with it. They've had some pretty great stuff come out of this season. There will be more great stuff, and more stuff that people don't like.

I'll still watch it every week that it's on.

I think Tina Fey's writing is hysterical -- watch 'Mean Girls'; yes, I'm serious -- but I think there was a hard stretch there last year when she was splitting time between SNL and developing 30 Rock and I think SNL suffered for it. Now, that Seth Meyers is in charge as the head writer, I think we're seeing a rebound.
Last year was also an off year, I think, because Lorne Michaels deliberately bloated the cast numbers and gave the 'new guys' a lot of air time that they weren't necessarily ready for b/c he knew that budget cuts were coming at NBC and some of the older faces would have to go. As a result, last season was nearly unwatchable but it's paying off this year.

I agree. That movie was very well written, very funny (if you can drop your machismo for a bit) and is probably something young girls should be made to watch by their parents.

I actually referenced Mean Girls in a conversation one day.

My favorite period was probably from 91-96. My high school and early college years, although having no tv at Liberty kept me from watching much of any television. I think that SNL peaked about 1992-1993 when Wayne's World was the biggest thing in America. I know that is all we were talking about in high school and went to see the movie opening night. That stupid movie made over $100 million and had the crap merchandised out of it. The success of that movie opened up the doors for a TON of crappy SNL character movies right after it (CB4, It's Pat, that stupid Al Franken character, etc.). 92-93 everyone I knew watched SNL every Saturday night. To us, it was just that good. Of course they fired everyone a few years later, but I think a lot of that had to do with Phil Hartman and Dana Carvey leaving. They didn't have enough quality impersonators.

One of my favorite episodes was done sometime in 92-93 and the host was Jason Priestly. My friends and I still quote much of that episode.

Early to mid-90's fan as well. Seems to be a lot of agreement that SNL was very good then. Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Chris Farely, Kevin Nealon were some of my favorites. Never a big fan of Will Ferrell. I don't get it why people think he is funny.

To steal a line: SNL of the 90's was like a Sports Car. When it worked it was INCREDIBLE, but for the most part it kept breaking down and you had to get it repaired. NOW the late 80's, that was something........

I wasn't saying Tina Fey isn't funny, cause she is, but I just think its funnier now that Seth is doing it.
