Yeah, I know what you are thinking. Why is Sly starting up this thread? But once again, LU is represented on a reality show.
'American Idol' Christian Crew Pumps Up the Church

Christian singers are continuing to show success in the sixth season of American Idol as three Gospel Music Association (GMA) favorites - Jordin Sparks, Melinda Doolittle, and Chris Sligh - moved on past the vote last week.

Among the contestants, one more vocalist has emerged as having a gospel music background – Phil Stacey, minister of music at First Coast Christian in Jacksonville, Fla.
This places four Christian artists among the final 11, encouraging viewers that this year’s winner may represent Christian talent.
Besides his connection with the church, Stacey also attends Liberty University, an independent fine arts Baptist university located in Lynchburg, Va.
Despite the fact that he passed this week’s vote, Stacey was one of the bottom vote-getters and may have to struggle to stay alive in the competition.
Full Story
For the record, I have seen maybe five minutes of this season and I'm not exactly down with the whole concept. But like it or not, it remains of a juggernaut of American culture at the moment. And its cool to see so many professing Christians in such high profile roles.
It doesn't mention it in the above story, but Chris Sligh is a former student at BJU and North Greenville and the girl Melinda is a Belmont grad.

he's 29.....I wonder if they meant attended or maybe he's doing it DLP
And Sligh's good friend is a student here now....he's got some pics of him and Chris on Facebook

I assume he's a DLP student since he's working as a music pastor in J-Vegas.
There has been some discussion over in the BJU forums about whether they should be cheering on Chris on AI considering he left the school under a cloud of some sort and he went to the Liberty wannabe school at North Greenville.

For the record, if I went there I'd kill myself...and I think some of the thumpers are bad here!

There is a Joel Philip Stacey listed on the email list...
...wonder if that is him?
On a side note...votefortheworst.com is trumpeting Sanjaya as the worst. DUH??!!

We did some research on this the other day -- Phil Stacey is indeed in the DLP program here at LU. For #5, I'll give out his ID number.. any takers?

How did it take Flamefaners this long to come up with this story? You guys are really slipping

FWIW...I think this season is terrible. There is just nobody to root for.

Season is bad...very bad. The guys are horrible, but at leat Blake is entertaining. Chris is okay as well. Those would be the best two guys, but they are not nearly as talented as the girls. I loved it when Christ sang DC Talk a couple weeks ago, but the judges didn't like the song...big suprise there.
Two very good singers though. Melinda and Lakisha (sp) Melinda should win. My problem with her is that she is basically a professional. She's been backup singing for years and you don't get that job if you can't sing.
I think backup singers need to be banned from the show. Not all of them are good but Melinda is one of the best the competition has had.

Dang...
...another week of Sanjaya. What's funny, since he is top 10, he gets to go on tour with them next summer. The 8-11 year old girl crowd will be ecstatic.

You mean her "bouncing" everytime the camera gets near her?

How about the 12 year old in the stands that was bawling the entire time Sanjaya was singing. Could they get in ONE more camera shot please.
If you are referencing bouncing, how can you not mention Haley from the other night!

Could be Haley vs Sanjaya at the end...
...the 8-11 year old girl voters vs the dirty old men voters.

If Sanjaya can be as entertaining as he was last night, I'm glad he will stay on. He can't sing a lick but his outfits, and hair are entertaining in and of themselves. Combine that with his charisma last night, and he will be on for a few more weeks.
The girl crying during idol was on the today show today. The shots of her during the show were absolutely priceless. Took me back to the old clips of the Beatles with the screaming girls.
I like the British Invasion hits, but IMOP they didn't do very well with them. Some of them weren't even British.
I don't think Melinda is going to make it with the audience/voters. They will grow tired of her schtick very soon. BORING!

The funniest part was when Simon said " I agree with how the girl feels" - basically Sanjaya made us all want to cry....he isn't entertaining, he is a laughing stock everyweek.
And Haley, knows what she has to "use" to get votes, i thought Simon was going to have to wipe his mouth.
