The Current Liberty Flames Logo (of Alternates and Scaling)

I'm okay with the current athletic logo and branding. Let me get that straight right away. This is not a hate thread. It's not my favorite logo ever, but it's fine. It's done better than any previous logo (I think), and I like that things are semi-unified there.

However, I've noticed that the current logo only looks good in situations where it's decently large in size. It doesn't scale down very well at all. I think this every year around tournament time when I see TV graphics under pictures of players and things like that. They'll always have some tiny portion of the graphic (usually a horizontal bar) under a player's picture that features a tiny version of the school's logo on one side or the other. The few times that I've seen our logo in one of these type of graphics, you can't make out what it is. It's mostly just white with some tiny lines on it.

So, it would seem to me that we need an alternate logo for those types of things. Something to use in places where it needs to be on the smaller side in size. I've noticed several schools in the tournament provide alternates from their main athletic logos for such uses. (UNC, most notably.) Call me crazy, but I'm just trying to think ahead so that when we are on TV a little more, people might actually be able to see our logo.

Like NC we honestly should have some sort of letter-based logo for those occasions. I honestly love our logo... but you're right... for certain situations it isn't a quality representation. Do we even have an updated version of the letters that match the new look?

We've got the Varsity "LU" logo as an alternate, but the problem with the downscaling, is that it always seems to be done incorrectly. The background HAS TO BE white for this logo to look right. People like to put it on a blue background because it's one of our colors. Second, it's rectangular in shape and when making it smaller, they always seem to square it up. Of course it will look ridiculous.

also, I think you just lit the bat signal for PeterParker. (a spiderman analogy would have worked nicely there.)

I'd be interested at seeing some different logos, as well. I'm not a huge fan of ours currently but I do cringe when I see it on TV.

Dang, I didn't even say anything and I'm getting called out...now I know Tally is just lying in wait for a reason to use the "PP" Image

(I will point out, though, that the baseball team has taken to a "doctored" version of the logo...check the baseball threads for the pictures...)

Actually, earlier this week I was going to ask this guy who works where I do (a publishing company) who had all of these incredible comic book drawings hanging in his cube (apparently he does the inking for an internet comic book) to see about creating a modern mock-up of the retro "storming bird rolling up sleeves" picture (the one sj loves so much) similar to how the University of Miami created an update for their retro one. Alas, I was foiled though, when I went up to chat with him, I learned that he was "let go."

So:
