yeah i saw that last night i think....can't believe the kid got 10 years...but i am sure there are better stories in the world for espn to cover then this...there are bigger injustices I am sure...sure the kid shouldn't of gotten 10 years...but thats the risk you take when you combine drugs, drinking and sex...and oh yeah a video camera
but 10 years is ridiculous

I just got done reading that article, and the ten-year sentence is one of the most ridiculous things i've ever heard. This case clearly involves racism, I don't care what the old law said, there is no way that this consenual sex act should take away 10 years of a person life. Especially with all the sickos out there that get reduced sentences because of "mental problems." This case in my opinion shows two things, how screwed up our current judicial system is and how racism still prevails in the south.

the girl was the one who started the whole thing in my opinion.

Everyone knows she started it. It was stated multiple times in the article. The age thing is what he got in trouble for.
It's still horse urine.
Sorry, I watched a movie that used that line a lot, and I like it.

Did I read that correctly? That the penalty would be less if they actually had intercourse instead of just oral?

This was the main entry that came up for it in google; I believe they overturned or commuted the sentence and he ended up going to Hampton University.

its a dumb sentence......but espn had a way they wanted to make the story look, so I am not really going to sit here and say things are one way or anothe without knowing all the facts...but there is no doubt the 10 year sentence is rediculous and the fact that nobody else got in trouble at all really makes me scratch my head...but again, this is the risk you take as high school kids when you drink, do drugs and sex....it sucks, but that is the risk you take when you combine those elements

It's dumb to even send the kid to jail. She came onto him. She initiated it.
Also, if I'm not mistaken, the article said she claimed to be 17.

Tell me, how many 17/18 year old guys are going to turn down a girl in front of them that is willing and able?
How many single guys regardless of age would?

Well....as much as I agree that it is racist....The fact is that it is still a law, and he and the girl are both guilty.
Also, this out-dated law is something that probably has come up before, but why wasn't it dealt with at an earlier time.
It is sad to read......but, he did do one thing, show his integrity by not taking a plea bargain

I wouldn't say that it is a racial issue, but I'll tell you what's stupid: when the hick-legislators in Georgia make a change to their anachronistic laws solely because of this case -- but then don't make it retroactively apply to this kid.
That being said, let's not treat him like a saint. Someone earlier said it, bad things tend to happen you combine drugs, booze, and sex with underage girls.

This is a case of punishment not fitting a crime. We can judge this kid all we want on a moral level but to apply the law against him and give him a sentence so harsh does not make sense...As far as race NOT being a factor (whoever said it) are you for real? What world or country do you live in to make such a ridiculous statement. This kind of injustice happens to black kids every day but no one writes stories about it. I know people think black people whine about injustices but these things really happen and happen a lot. Once is too many times to be truthful but it happens all the time. Everyone claims to be innocent whenever anything goes down so after a while you get jaded and think, if he is on trial or hemmed up then they must be guilty. I have seen this type of treatment 1st hand. Young black men are treated differently by the law than whites. That is a fact that few will argue on either side of the law.

race is an issue!!! that story choked me up and also put tears in my eyes. this shows me how our country has not changed, especially in the south. two kids having consensual sex, and the guy goes to the pen for 10 years?? heck his leife has a permanent scar now because he has to register as a sex offender! state legislatures need to look at these archaic laws and fix them. ed, how can you say this is not racist??? i know what the law says, but if a promising white football player did this, i would be willing to bet he would be out of jail by now. don't get me wrong what he did was wrong as well as the girl, but this kind of crap in america needs to stop!

This is similar to one of my friends who just enrolled at Wake Forest and is a football player.....
Dennis Godfrey.....just do a search for him on google or yahoo and you should find plenty to read..
That is why I say it is racist, b/c of Dennis, it hits closer to hom....even to the white kids
