Professor's Rant About no early classes on Monday

Monday and Wedsnesday classes are already taking a beating due to Easter Monday and the Assessment Day...
so...
...after a 5+ week break, the school decides to open late because of a little sleet?

I'm sorry...
...but that is ridiculous. I appreciate the "powers" looking out for faculty well-being, and I am sure that in their wisdom they want to use the extra time to get the sidewalks clear for the students...
...BUT WE HAVE BUSSES NOW! grrrrrr :x

I recall storms worse than this in the area and the school open for business.

Students and adminstration...
...this is a college in Virginia....
...Winter happens....
...Deal with it.

DISCLAIMER...
This rant is not to ridicule anyone who may post here or powers that read this....just a comment from a selfish professor who is venting frustration and eager to impart knowlege to the students under his charge.

I have 4WD, I don't care if we have class or not. I just don't mind sleeping in.

If actual classes started at 10, things might be different, but classes don't start til 11:30.

it seems that every year they cancel classes or start classes late for the first wintry storm that comes out way, it doesn't seem to matter if its bad or not they always seem to call it off or at least have a delay...it doesn't change things for me, i have once class tomorrow at 2:45 and a meeting at 11 and thats it...so not too busy really...anyways, thats not the point, the point is they always do this the first wintry storm of the year, its the way liberty works...but from now on they will be more cautious about calling school of....i remember 6 inches of snow falling freshmen year and they still had school

Prof., the ice storm is an act of God, so thank the good Lord for it and enjoy that second cup of coffee at home with your spouse before braving the elements for an 11:30 class.

He has a point though. I know tomorrow is mainly just a "read the syllabus and go home" day, but it takes away from an actual teaching day for him, and MWF classes are already losing two with Easter Monday and reading day. That's 3 less days he has to cover material. As a professor, I'm sure he wants to be able to teach as much as possible.

The main reason I think they cancelled school is a "cover your butt" deal. With more kids living off campus, there's more people driving to class than in the past. If someone gets in a wreck and gets hurt while on the way to class, that's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Too many kids have died on this stuff in the past for LU to take the chance.

The "I love school being out" thread is in the Lynchburg Life. This is to discuss why it happened.

Not in my classes...
...we lecture the entire first day.

After driving through a perilous journey...
...from the palatial Fumblerooskies Estates...
...tucked deep in the Vista Acres woods...
...I stand by by rant of last evening.

Nary a slick spot (other than my bald head) to be found.

How's that new shopping center treating you? Do we finally have a prof. that shops at Old Navy?"

LOL. Nope..
...my son has outgrown Old Navy. The only things I don't like about the shopping center is the extra stoplight...
...and if I could only get my wife to stay away from Kohl's...

I for one was glad my first class was cancelled. I don't care how lame the ice was, I was glad not to go. I got to sleep in until convo.
