Here's the Deal

PAmedic suggested that we buy another domain and point it to the new home of the board.

That was a good idea.

However, it was not a simple one. The domain name is written into the configuration of the board in several places, and is also tied to the hosting account the board lives on. Fortunately, I was able to find a mod for the configuration, change some things in the database, buy a domain, and hack around with .htaccess files until I was blue in the face...but it works!

So, you'll see some funky stuff happen with your browser when you visit FlameFans.com, but it should be working. When our old host finally releases the FlameFans.com domain to our control, there will be a brief period of downtime for the site, but nothing like what we've experienced during the move. Hopefully that will be the last downtime we see for a long time.

Welcome back, Flame fans.

You're not meaning to tell me that Medic had a good idea. I refuse to believe it.

Well done, El Scorcho.

Thank you.

And as for my post count, well, sometimes it's not fun playing around in databases all of the time. So, when you're in there and you see a little opportunity for a gag, you have to take it.

I had thought the same thing but figured it'd be too much work. I remembered the CoastalFans.com used to have a second address at ccuchants.com or something like that. Plus, I figured it'd be expensive.

Yeah, that's a lot of posts. That's what happens when you're the moderator.

I caught .info domains on sale at our new registrar for $1.99. Not bad!

Even SJ could afford that.

P.S.

The forum may be issuing cookies for either domain which means the "View New Posts Since Your Last Visit" link might get a little wonky for now. I'm working on straightening that out.

Hopefully the board is running a little faster overall as well, even in this temporary address situation.

it's NOTICEABLY faster.

no doubt about it- even w/ DSL it would hang between posts and refreshing, etc.

no longer doing that

EXCELLENT JOB
